Patsy, my safe room is just the laundry room...only room in the house without windows.

Arky, didn't you mean something a bit more unsavory (no pun!) about not having cats if you die alone? I didn't think you meant leaving the pets as orphans so much as them possibly having you for dinner...saw some cop show where that was a theme recently...or maybe the news had something about it.

So tomorrow I'm going to tell everyone what we're doing for my birthday next week...don't want to reveal too much at one sitting. ;-)

Yes, exactly--grim sorta-joking, not really joking. It happened to an old man in the community where I work. It was sad because he had no one close enough to even check on him for about a week, which is saying a lot in a community that small, where everyone knows everyone.

Wrt the birthday, don't leave us hanging too long on the plan, Judith!

I'm awful about remembering birthdays, but I always remember yours because it's the day after Jim's. And I always remember Jim's because it's the day before yours. ;-)

I knew that would post twice, but I couldn't get the page to load. Sorry!

Betty,

Just wait ten years and you'll consider being home unintoxicated with some time to yourself lucky. And no paper to write, unless you want to! Or in my case, I'll be 50.

I have one more paper to write this week. I don't think I have to write one for my summer class.

Okay, a few weeks ago we went to a local museum featuring an exhibit on the Cowboys of Hawaii..they are called paniolas. The sponsor of the exhibit was a woman who was recently inducted into the Cowgirl Hall of Fame...she's a rancher from Maui. (And yes, I live in a town which has a Cowgirl Hall of Fame museum...)

Keoni mentioned at the time that his grandfather was good friends with one of the more well-known paniolas who went to compete in a national rodeo in Wyoming back in the day and whipped ass...took all the top honors and shocked the rodeo people no end. I told him I always attended the national rodeos when they came to town here in Fort Worth. He said he'd never been to an actual rodeo except for the ones on the ranch where he spent summers with his grandfather but he was interested in that culture.

So we got a flyer from the Community Center of the village next to us...a larger little berg...announcing that on Friday (my birthday) there was going to be a lecture by these two old ladies who grew up on the rodeo circuit as their parents were all rodeo people. (This was given last year at the local Opera House and was $50 a ticket...) It's the same lecture only better because not only was it just $16 but they are serving a "rodeo meal", too! Something called Rodeo Stew and Cornbread.

So that's what we're doing on Friday night. Something completely different from what we usually do to celebrate my big day...ha!

Judith,

that sounds like a wonderful birthday experience. I forgot you were a taurus, but I should have known the way you so absolutely love your man and a good drink.

21697. arkymalarky - 4/29/2007 2:56:28 AM

How fun, Judith!

21698. arkymalarky - 4/29/2007 2:57:02 AM

Heh. That description matches our Taurus friend Jim.

It's next Friday, ulgine--what are doing up so early?

21701. wonkers2 - 4/29/2007 12:41:13 PM

Beautiful day in Detroit, Mago, yesterday and this morning.

21702. Magoseph - 4/29/2007 3:42:44 PM

Gorgeous, Wonk--what are your plans for the day?

21703. Ms. No - 4/29/2007 9:30:00 PM

Gah, here I am at the library getting ready to do some homework and also wanting to just say Hi! to everybody. My computer took a dump last week and is now at the doctor's --- I'm hoping to get it back in the next day or two.

The weird but exciting news is that I'm doing my first play in over ten years. I just got cast in Neil LaButte's Fat Pig. It's a fairly uncomfortable play ----- that's kind of his trademark --- but I'm really excited about it. The whole thing is a bit weird since I hadn't ever planned on acting again, but my friend is directing and she asked me to come read and she'd apparently made up her mind to cast me before I was even done with the final monologue.

So, it's flattering and exciting and scary as hell. Sheesh!

In other news....well, it's still the work search and school and summer's starting to heat up and I'm missing my web connection like crazy.

I haven't had time to read back over anything since I'm on a time constraint here but I hope you all are well and that I'll be able to hook back up with you later this week.

See ya!

21704. wonkers2 - 4/29/2007 10:57:33 PM

Mago, I'm going with Cap'n Dirty to launch the Tomater Sloop! Soon it'll be the first of May and everyone knows what starts for the Cap'n on the first of May!

21705. Ms. No - 5/1/2007 3:37:13 PM

Whew, caught up now!

I miss storms since moving west. We do get more weather in Sacramento than I ever got in LA, but it's still nothing much except on the rare occasion when we have flooding which is only every few years or so.

21706. Ms. No - 5/1/2007 3:37:19 PM

Ulgine,

I have determined to remain as close as I can to my nephews (and new niece) so that they pick me a nice rest home....when I'm 90. On my odder days I've been planning a retirement community where all my other single childless friends and I will congregate in our dotage. We'll have to import some kids from somewhere so we can yell at them to keep off the grass.

21707. Ms. No - 5/1/2007 3:39:14 PM

Judith,

Oooh! Your birthday is going to be so fun! I talked to my brother the other day and he was working the Annual Cowboy Poetry Festival down south. I was so jealous. I didn't get to go last year either. Maybe one of these days --- but now that you've brought the rodeo to mind, I may look one up here. I know they've got one in Folsom over 4th of July weekend or something.

21708. thoughtful - 5/1/2007 4:03:16 PM

happy belated bday miss judith...sure sounds like a great way to spend the day.
