I can remember back in the early 70s we had a spring like this...I know, because all the rain depressed the hell out of me and my doctor put me on something that made me a vegetable...a vegetable that gained weight and was oblivious to everything.

Ask your mom, Arky...I'd bet she experienced the same thing. Any time a woman got depressed, our Dr. Feelgoods would vege us out.

Well, I have good news with a sort of bummer twist. My step-father just got promoted and they're being relocated to Baton Rouge which is wonderful and exciting and great and all that but it means I won't be coming to Dallas for visits to the fam and by proximity the AtHomes.

I did note that BR is only slightly farther from the Malarkies than Dallas. ;->

Hmm....I'm thinking about a Mote Gathering in the Crescent City sometime, eh?

Congrats to your step-father!

We could do it. Bob's friend he just visited on spring break lives there, and she's a lot of fun. Bob and Spook had a great time with her when they visited.

I thought about making a joke about being familiar with Mom's medicine cabinet. But I won't. ;->

Oh, I meant to ask--if anyone has any suggestions on a good health insurance company besides Blue Cross/Blue Shield, I'm looking.

21857. judithathome - 5/26/2007 5:28:55 AM

Sorry...ours is for retired military so I am no help.

MsNo...count us IN...or even one in Baton Rouge. We'll even pick you up and take you along to the Malarkies if you like. After all, I wouldn't want to stand between you and a reunion with Todd. Ha!!

21858. Ms. No - 5/26/2007 7:14:26 AM

Oh lord, I do loves me some perfectly awful men!

21859. Ulgine Barrows - 5/26/2007 7:20:56 AM

Me too, Ms. No!

larky- Cigna. I loved Cigna when we had that through my husband's job. They switched this year to BlueCross/BlueShield, which I abhor.

I've read your post 21653 several times, and laughed at this-

"If you do die alone, make sure you don't have cats."

You got it going on, arkymalarky

21860. arkymalarky - 5/26/2007 4:32:06 PM

Thanks Ulgine!--for the compliment, but most especially for the tip wrt Cigna. That helps a whole bunch. Mose hasn't gotten a job yet. She has one class to finish up and is working at the nursery school where she went to nursery school, which is great for the summer, but...BCBS is being a BH (butthead) about covering her now. I made the very stupid mistake of taking her off BCBS through my job and putting her on some insurance through her university for students which was crap, and now I can't go back and can't go forward with BCBS.

21861. arkymalarky - 5/26/2007 4:35:12 PM

You and Judith are so BAD No!

21862. poipual - 5/26/2007 9:31:06 PM

by the by, arky, Evie and I loved Branson. We're so square and "patriotic." Pierce Arrow had us saying the pledge.

21863. arkymalarky - 5/26/2007 10:09:54 PM

I've never been, but I'm not surprised you loved it. My very-ultra-liberal SIL and her husband love it. My very-ultra-liberal Bro has played there several times and one of his best friends is a musician/emcee there (if he still works there--I can't remember if he's still there).

21864. betty - 5/26/2007 11:09:45 PM

Mags,

graduation was wonderful. The History department has a reputation for being iconoclastic. Some years they perform wacky songs or have swordfights or do re-enactments of war battles. This year they had a quiz show. It was fun.

I wore a colorful below the knee knit dress and a little black jacket. blah. but whatever. my parents took Weed and I out to diner. I had grilled trout, it matched my dress, blah.

I have spent the week relaxing, drinking and dancing. and working, but we'll ignore that part and pretend I have been in a protracted bliss.

21865. betty - 5/26/2007 11:10:50 PM

Arky,

Cigna is a very fine company. I used to work for them.

21866. alistairconnor - 5/27/2007 10:54:47 AM

Congratulations on the graduation, Betty. What do you do next? You've already got a job... Can you get a life now?

21867. Ulgine Barrows - 5/28/2007 11:01:20 AM

Well, I got knocked up when I was 19 and had Blue Cross/Blue Shield. This was back in the 80s.

My mom had bought me student insurance, but they said I wasn't covered under the family plan, since I wasn't married, and was pregnant.

I've hated BC/BS since. I paid them money for years, just to keep my credit clean.

I hope the man that turned down my claim burns in hell.

It was an ectopic pregnancy, and I almost died.
What the fuck is insurance for, if not that.

21868. Ulgine Barrows - 5/28/2007 11:27:33 AM

What bad manners I have!

Congratulations, betty.

I hope you don't have Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance.

21869. alistairconnor - 5/28/2007 12:18:10 PM

Ulgine, you're a poster girl for why private health insurance sucks. I hate it passionately.

But I'm a foreigner and a socialist, so what would I know.

21870. arkymalarky - 5/28/2007 4:05:56 PM

I agree with both of you. I only wish it weren't a holiday weekend so I could make the ranting phone calls I want to make. But maybe it's better that it is so I will be more reasonable tomorrow.

I can't figure out why she was denied, her doctor's office can't figure it out, and they won't say unless you write a letter requesting they send information to her doctor's office. Or some such crap. It's so complicated I'll have to call and get the steps from them. It has to be a letter from you to them, not your doctor, and has to go back through the doctor and back to you.

And unfortunately, Cigna doesn't seem to have any offices in AR. We're VERY weak wrt insurance availability here. BCBS is pretty much a monopoly. I have it because it's all I can get for a decent price where I work, but next year I'm looking into changing to another company of about three on our list.

21871. wonkers2 - 5/28/2007 4:14:31 PM

Private health insurance companies specialize in not insuring people who need health insurance and avoiding payment whenever they can.
