Wow...that beats the hell out of us winning $50 on the Super Bowl!

I was talking to a buddy of mine who was also there and he thinks the dipping business was a scam. Most likely it was. He said the jeweler went to 'dip' for his wife and accidentally spilled a bunch on the floor. He wasn't the least bit concerned and they even had to point out that he'd missed a few in picking them up. Now the jeweler claimed he could only tell the difference with the loop and he made a great show of examining each one after they were selected to see if it was real or not, but the more I thought about it, I realized there was no jeweler in his right mind who was going to spend the time to sort through 400 diamonds to find the real one. And there's no jeweler in his right mind who'd risk making an error giving away the real one thinking it was cz when it wasn't only to be out a diamond afterward. It was meant to be a drawing all along, I'm sure.

Regardless, it turned out ok for me.

Are you sure it's really a diamond? I don't doubt that is, but after the other questions you raise???

23619. thoughtful - 2/12/2008 11:45:56 PM

Well, I'm picking it up on thurs. from the jewelers and have decided to take it to another jeweler to do the setting. He can tell me if it's real or not.

I thought of the same thing considering the jeweler now has 400 1/2 carat cz's to get rid of!

And of course the value of the diamond can vary a lot depending on the 4 c's. It could be badly occluded or poorly cut, so who knows?

Still, you can't beat the price!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY, everyone!

It's also our 27th wedding anniversay and true to form, Keoni got me nothing. But that's fine because just having HIM is enough for me. ;-)

23621. Magoseph - 2/14/2008 5:28:04 PM

Well, I think that just like two years ago, he will surprise you later in the day!

23622. Ms. No - 2/14/2008 5:38:30 PM

Happy Anniversary, Juditha!

Happy VD to the rest of you! ;->

23623. alistairconnor - 2/14/2008 7:21:28 PM

What do you think Judith? Do you want to be surprised? Are you genuinely happy with "nothing" or is it just a matter of managing expectations in case he really does nothing?

I promised my gal that I would do nothing for "VD" but supposing she really secretly wants me to do something...

ah fuck it.

23624. anomie - 2/14/2008 8:20:47 PM

You'd better get on the ball AC. Women never forget that you forgot. Or in your case, that you kept the promise she wished you hadn't.

23625. alistairconnor - 2/14/2008 8:31:07 PM

She'll laugh about it but she'll be crying inside eh?

She'll get over it... :O)

23626. anomie - 2/14/2008 8:38:43 PM

I wouldn't risk it. Unfortunately I speak from experience, although my particular sin was/is forgetting birthdays.

23627. wonkers2 - 2/14/2008 10:43:42 PM

Thanks for the reminder. I just bought a pound of dark chocolate with a valentine wrapping.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY JUDITH!

We're currently celebrating vd at the truckstop. Bob didn't plan it. I spent time after school hunting him a card and came home starving, so dinner was a matter of self-preservation for him. And if I don't see a steak very soon, he's going down anyway.

Let's just say I am resigned to receiving nothing. He claims it's because he doesn't know what to get me but I feel thst is just a cop out, like him claiming it's because he's a MAN that he can't put his keys in the same place every night when he comes home which results in US searching for half an hour every morning for the "missing" keys.

23630. arkymalarky - 2/15/2008 1:15:23 AM

Bob says the same thing, and my response is that the town he teaches in is bigger than the one I teach in, yet I manage to find a card. I don't care about stuff--it is, truly, the thought that counts.

23631. Ms. No - 2/15/2008 10:00:05 AM

I celebrated with my mom who's in town for a visit. We took care of car title exchange and registration and resident parking permit errands all morning and then went to lunch at a place called Paesano's.

I'm all about their pork fusili --- habanjero pesto, kalua pork and a dab of sour cream. It's amazing.

Tonight was opening night for The Vagina Monologues and the show went off really well. We were ten times better tonight than we were in rehearsal last night. All the same, I'm glad we've only got one more performance.

23632. alistairconnor - 2/15/2008 10:37:19 AM

Aaah... so the SMS was enough! That's reassuring.

23633. alistairconnor - 2/15/2008 11:27:22 AM

Congratulations Nyetskaya... Makes a change from Jex's Virginia Monologues in the politics thread...

23634. arkymalarky - 2/15/2008 5:25:38 PM

Congrats, No!

I have a four day weekend. Bob has a three day weekend. Heh.

23635. arkymalarky - 2/15/2008 5:26:15 PM

But he gets out a week earlier than I do at the end of the year.
