26298. arkymalarky - 2/3/2011 5:56:27 AM Lots of people don't like it, but "I told you so" is a smart person's consolation prize. Mose hates when I tell her that. The people I work with will be sick of hearing it by the time the school closes in june. But when you put so much effort into trying to prevent something and people barrel ahead and get exactly what you warned them they would, what else are you going to say? I told my principal I wanted to put up big red "I told you so" billboards on every exit from town. 26299. thoughtful - 2/3/2011 3:23:18 PM My in laws were slovak and as best I could tell lived by 3 rules:
1. Say it often enough, it becomes true
2. Don't say it and it won't happen
3. Anything I don't know isn't worth knowing
Schools are closed in some areas today...not because of the snow and ice on the roads, but because of snow and ice on the school roofs...one town called in the national guard to remove the snow so kids could get back in...all the school buildings were declared unsafe until the snow was removed. I don't ever recall that happening. We've had many buildings collapse from the weight of the snow. And guess what...more predicted for Saturday and Monday. If only we had some melting in between, but as soon as it clears, the arctic weather moves in and everything freezes solid.
When hubby was living in his old house, he used to have to turn the water off every night before he went to bed if the temp was below 20 degrees as the pipes would freeze. At least those days are gone. 26300. thoughtful - 2/3/2011 3:29:42 PM If there's any consolation, it's that today our world is sparking in the sun due to the ice storm we had yesterday. No matter how sick I am of this winter, being surrounded by sparkles is always awe-ful.

Good to see the Cafe is still running strong. 26303. bhelpuri - 2/3/2011 6:13:18 PM Nice photos, thoughtful. Especially fun to view while sitting in the tropics. 26304. arkymalarky - 2/3/2011 7:12:09 PM Jay! Great to see you! Nice seeing your name appear in sites I frequent, as well, btw. 26305. bhelpuri - 2/4/2011 11:22:32 AM Nice seeing your name appear in sites I frequent
Oh yes? Could I have a link to where Ackroyd is fighting the good fight? 26306. arkymalarky - 2/4/2011 4:44:52 PM 4th snow day of the year. No ice, but roads are bad I hear. Not compelled to see for myself. Still sick and way behind on work, so this is the best time for a snow day for me. People at work are moaning that we'll be going into June. I have to work X number of days. I don't care about going a week longer. 26307. arkymalarky - 2/4/2011 4:46:58 PM I've seen him in several places, most recently Atrios. 26308. arkymalarky - 2/4/2011 4:48:23 PM Would get more specific, but it's kinda hard on this phone and in the boonies to find and link. 26309. judithathome - 2/4/2011 10:33:09 PM Our schools have been down for 4 days in a row...many older folk swear that has never happened before.
I hesitate to remind them most "bad weather" like this run of it usually hits on weekends... 26310. thoughtful - 2/8/2011 3:51:51 PM What a break! We're getting rain today instead of snow and there are no significant snowfalls expected the rest of this week...though it will be bitter cold. Who cares? So long as we don't have to shovel.
I'm hoping that despite the cold the sun will continue to melt the south side of our house. We've had to start paying for electric as our solar panels are complete snow covered and not generating any power. Most frustrating as the panels work best when its cold.
26311. arkymalarky - 2/9/2011 2:40:13 AM We supposedly have 100% chance of snow tomorrow. Bob went to Walmart tonight. Better him than me. 26312. judithathome - 2/9/2011 4:13:20 AM Keoni and I went to CostCo this morning....I'm halfway hoping he gets a taste tomorrow of what I dealt with for the 10 days he was basking in Hawaii. 26313. arkymalarky - 2/9/2011 5:46:31 AM Haha! We're now in the phone call competition mode. Bob has gotten the call from his school, Mose and I have not. Do we have to set the alarm? Will we go and get sent home? Will it all be a bust? The plot thickens and suspense rises. Most of my facebook teacher frends are out. I used to get furious if Bob got the call before I did. Mose is like that now. Which made it fun to call her when Bob got called. 26314. judithathome - 2/10/2011 7:59:15 PM In typical barn-door-closing-after-horses, etc. the city was prepared for Holy War yesterday and all that happened was a weak skirmish on the outskirts by apathetic heretics.
Hardly worth the extra sand on the roads. 26315. arkymalarky - 2/10/2011 8:36:02 PM we got about 3 inches, and mose 10 miles away got over 5. It went further north than they said. North central AR got 2 ft. Danny went by in the grader yesterday and they got garbage today. I'm figuring school tomorrow. 26316. judithathome - 2/14/2011 7:40:13 PM Yesterday we went to a Valentine's brunch at the theatre we've been going to since we met...except for the years we were overseas, we've had season tickets to this place which has been in Fort Worth...and run by the same director...for 32 years. It was the place Keoni and I went to on our first date.
The staff had bought us flowers and had them at our table. When the director addressed the audience before the play started, he told our story and thanked us for our years of support and wished us a happy anniversary...and 170 people cheered and applauded.
It was great!
26317. arkymalarky - 2/14/2011 10:32:19 PM How cool! Happy anniversary!
