i have a former student there who loves it. the town of conway is very nice and safe. mose went to uca and loved it, right by hendrix. it boasted a great liberal arts program but i don't know a lot about it now, except that's why my student went there. if you go for a visit you'll probably fall in love with the physical campus and environment. i knew people who taught there years ago, but they're long gone. i'll see what dad and a few others know that might be more current. please let me know if y'all decide to come! bob has a workshop in conway july 11-15 and we'll be staying at a hotel there, but i'd drop everything any time if y'all do make it this way. conway's about 90 mins from here. we'll be gone to CO from mid july thru early august, but other than that we'll be around.

one of mose's best friends married a girl who went there. it's very small, but highly reputable. few of my students go because it's expensive, but the one who's there now had a free ride with scholarships and grants.

Arky, the last time we were in Estes Park was 2002. We've applied every year since then, but they apparently aren't interested in us.

26468. Wombat - 6/25/2011 1:36:09 PM

Thanks Arky. It would be mid-August, most likely.

26469. arkymalarky - 6/25/2011 6:13:15 PM

Sounds great Wombat! Prepare for oppressive heat.

26470. arkymalarky - 6/25/2011 6:15:51 PM

I think it's a snobby place then, Charlie! We generally just go thru there to go to RM Nat park. Bob's former student is getting married there but we can't make it.

RAIN!!!
and baby birds are gone with no evidence of fowl play.

26472. wabbit - 6/28/2011 9:46:42 PM

Excellent news on both counts!

Hey team! Hey Charl!

I've got a road trip coming up, to find some accomodation for the elder daughter, Louise (I never had the imagination to dream up a Mote pseudonym for her!)

She checked out what universities had interesting Communication degrees, and settled on Avignon. It suits me : far enough away but not too far... small but interesting town, smallish university. Her course is selective, which is a definite plus (stereotypically, your first year French university student gets huge classes and overworked lecturers who will never know their name, 50% drop out rate etc)

So we'll be camping near Avignon, and checking out tiny studio apartments for her.

I'm the father of an adult today as Reid turns 18.

Also still the father of a teenager of course, oy.

26475. vonKreedon - 6/29/2011 6:40:10 PM

I love Avingnon, congrats AC and have fun.

26476. arkymalarky - 6/29/2011 7:19:14 PM

How cool AC!

I truly can't tell much difference from Mose even now that she's married. Even before she moved out. But teen to adult has got to be a good thing VK!

One more year for child no. 1...

26479. wabbit - 6/29/2011 11:35:13 PM

Geez, I have a cat older than your children! Reminds me of a story my ex used to tell, how his first ever patient as a veterinarian was a cat who was a year older than he was.

My third niece (and second goddaughter) just turned 19 a few days ago. I can't get the Steely Dan song out of my head.

26480. Ms. No - 6/30/2011 6:34:05 AM

Great song! Great band --- I sometimes miss being in Dr. Wu. Anytime I hear a Steely Dan song I get nostalgic.

26481. judithathome - 7/6/2011 8:50:00 PM

It's 104° here at 2:45pm CST.

26482. Ms. No - 7/6/2011 9:14:25 PM

The weather site says it's only 92 here, right now, but I think they're mistaken. It's not quite to triple digits today --- cooler than yesterday's 102, but it's plenty too hot for me.

8 days 'til Dallas! I've got so much crap to do here, but I'm housesitting with central air and the thought of going back to my hot little apartment with the window unit just depressess the....hey! Wait a minute!

It's summer. I'm not working. I can go work in my apartment at night after the heat breaks!!!

Oh, most excellent of ideas!

26483. judithathome - 7/7/2011 5:24:33 AM

How long will you be here, MsNo? We'll have to get together...my Greek friends will be back next week and will be here until the 28th. But we can meet up somewhere for dinner or you could come over for some Greek food...ha!

26484. Ms. No - 7/7/2011 10:10:51 AM

I'm in from the 14th to the 3rd with most of a week off attending class from the 25th to the 29th at UTD. My mom and I are taking a road trip to the hill country for a few days, but I'm not sure exactly when that is. We must definitely get together one way or another!
