YAY WABBIT!

26524. thoughtful - 8/28/2011 1:46:26 AM

Irene is knocking. We've battened all the hatches...didn't even know we had any. Parked the truck out in the field away from all potential tree falls. Put all the outside furniture in and have our flashlights at the ready.

First test of the new house in hurricane conditions. First test of the generator to see if it will get us through to restoration of power....something that is sure to happen...something that has taken 7 days in past hurricanes.

Wish us luck!

Been wondering about mote folks! Hope all stay safe!

Be well!

Drove with my son down to Fresno on the 19th. He's now in his second week of college and my wife and I are enjoying the expanded space, physical and energetic, that's now available to us. He's called us 1-3 times a day to let us know about each new class and tennis session.

We took two days to drive down, then I briefly revisited the travel style of my youth by visiting Kings Canyon NP, driving back into Fresno (no way around it), having a late lunch with Reid, and then leaving Fresno at 2:30 and driving all night with the Zune plugged into the car stereo to awaken Blair at 7:30 the following morning. Like a night with old friends.

How cool!

26529. thoughtful - 9/1/2011 2:23:43 AM

So we are out of power....have been since Sunday...expect it to continue until this weekend. What fun! I wasn't a fan of hubby's generator....until this week. Now I love it!

26530. arkymalarky - 9/1/2011 3:25:50 AM

I want one and Bob won't get one.

26531. iiibbb - 9/1/2011 9:01:56 PM

We just got one. I went that uses liquid propane because I figure propane will always be available... even when there's a run on gasoline.

26532. iiibbb - 9/1/2011 9:02:53 PM

a 20 lb tank lasts 12 hours. If you already have a propane tank at your house... even better.

26533. iiibbb - 9/1/2011 9:03:24 PM

We got our power back the day before yesterday, but half our neighborhood is still out.

26534. arkymalarky - 9/2/2011 3:34:03 AM

Hey, Bob might go for that.

26535. arkymalarky - 9/2/2011 3:37:11 AM

We have a 500 gal tank. Bob didn't know they had propane ones, or so he says

26536. iiibbb - 9/2/2011 9:41:50 PM

They are not common in the retail stores, but I figured they had to exist and did a google search. I don't like messing with small gas engines, so the fewer I can have in my life the better.

26537. iiibbb - 9/2/2011 9:42:40 PM

I wasted an hour on a stupid weed-whacker last week for instance... propane should be a lot more reliable.

Just read the posts from Arky and MsNo in Teaching...made me tired just reading what all they have planned for the coming year.

My main goal in life for the next few months is to be able to leave the house with Keoni without spending $300 shopping...since this guy retired, he has become quite the shopaholic!

26539. arkymalarky - 9/4/2011 11:52:53 PM

haha! msno made me tired. my year is very easy. if my schedule stayed like this i might not retire.

I just have to keep reminding myself to be calm, relax and remember that if I'm not super-teacher every day, nobody is going to die.

26542. arkymalarky - 9/5/2011 7:08:57 AM

that's right. and if you see it's temporary that makes it easier. one thing about teaching is the job has a start and end every year and no two years are the same. i never feel trapped in a bad or hectic situation on the job.
