A day late, but happy birthday to the Mote - 12 years old now.

26547. PsychProf - 9/14/2011 12:50:36 PM

Thanks for all your work here, Wabbit.

26548. RickNelson - 9/15/2011 2:51:29 AM

Wow, it'll be a teen next year. Those teen years--

Oh, oh...

26549. Ms. No - 9/15/2011 3:58:11 AM

I can't beleive I forgot? It was sort of eclipsed by the other anniversay.

Arky-- we got the propane generator and I tried it out. I'm pretty happy with it, but I won't be able to tell you more until the next disaster. I have a feeling it's going to be pretty easy to operate, and I like the fact that there won't be any to get old in the carburetor. I think all I have to do is change the oil and run it every so often.

thanks! bob wants to get one that runs off the tractor, but i think propane is a better idea. he really doesn't want to get one at all and has been dragging his feet for the last 30 years. ;/

26552. iiibbb - 9/22/2011 2:21:06 AM

Seems like a no-brainer if you have propane at the house already.

26553. iiibbb - 9/22/2011 2:21:42 AM

Assuming you even want/need one. I'm ambivalent, but it could come in handy one more week in my life.

i think he'd go for it, depending on the price.

26556. judithathome - 9/22/2011 10:20:07 PM

Jeez, I have no idea what you guys are talking about.

26557. arkymalarky - 9/22/2011 11:24:58 PM

generators for when the power goes out.

26558. judithathome - 9/22/2011 11:54:38 PM

Well...when our power goes out, we just leave the house and drive until we find some place with lights on...or give in and go to bed.

26559. iiibbb - 9/23/2011 12:38:19 AM

Judith... the power was out for a couple of days for Irene, and for 7 days for our neighbors 2 doors down.

When I lived down south we'd have the power go out for a few days after winter ice storms or hurricanes.

We got it because we figured out the contents of our chest freezer was worth the cost of a generator.

26560. arkymalarky - 9/23/2011 3:24:14 AM

and having water when you use a well is priceless after a few hours, much less days

26561. iiibbb - 9/27/2011 3:19:10 PM

I'd think you could get a battery backup for your well to cover a few hours.

26562. arkymalarky - 9/27/2011 4:09:01 PM

Hmm. Never heard of that.

26563. iiibbb - 9/27/2011 4:38:38 PM

Neither have I, but it seems like it should be possible.

26564. iiibbb - 9/27/2011 5:07:09 PM

Well.. there are for sump pumps, but I guess there is too much head to draw for a well for it to work... or at least make an cost-effective, efficient system.

Let's get at least one thread in the current month....
