Yikes, JaH, I hope you're feeling better.

Arky and iiibbb, be forewarned...this could be you!

26640. iiibbb - 12/9/2011 5:25:37 PM

Ahh fuck those guys

;)

26641. Ms. No - 12/13/2011 6:30:46 AM

I just sent off my final paper for my Masters' classes and a bigger pile of crap I've never written in my life. I hope to god neither of my professors actually reads the thing.

But it is done and I am finished until I take my orals in January.

I'm both immensely relieved and horribly ashamed at this moment.

26642. Ms. No - 12/13/2011 6:31:53 AM

BTW, it's not a thesis, it's just a paper combining information learned and researched for two classes - one on Education Law and one on Urban Education.

26643. arkymalarky - 12/13/2011 6:34:49 AM

Congrats on getting done! I'm so glad to be past all that. I love school but not with an overloaded work schedule. I don't know how you've stayed sane.

26644. arkymalarky - 12/13/2011 6:36:45 AM

And education programs are getting worse every year. It's depressing what's happening to the system.

26645. Ms. No - 12/13/2011 6:47:16 AM

I very nearly haven't --- stayed sane, that is. I had to take a week of release time because I was having panic attacks in my sleep.

Of course I was at school every day working on curriculum and lesson planning, but just to not have to be with the Freshmen for a week, and then following with a week off at Thanksgiving, kept me from literally walking off the job.

26646. arkymalarky - 12/13/2011 7:18:36 AM

I hope next semester is better. I feel for you with your schedule and situation.

26647. arkymalarky - 12/13/2011 7:19:43 AM

If I can help in any way or if you ever want to talk, holler at me.

26648. vonKreedon - 12/13/2011 5:21:04 PM

Hey Cos - Congrats and way to hang in there. We need passionate, creative, dedicated teachers more than we need anything else. Thanks for you and Arky being there.

26649. arkymalarky - 12/13/2011 7:57:36 PM

The system is driving them out, unfortunately, VK.

26650. iiibbb - 12/13/2011 8:34:49 PM

Congrats Ms No good luck.

26651. arkymalarky - 12/16/2011 6:50:25 AM

Another game suggestion for iphone or droid: quell. A solo casual game. I LOVE it.

"I hope to god neither of my professors actually reads the thing. "

It is no wonder our MA-Education system, at all levels, is such a disaster. Straight A's and degrees for all, knowledge and performance be damned.

26653. iiibbb - 12/16/2011 4:34:43 PM

The main source of mistakes in my dissertation were caused by a complete reformatting demanded by my committee the day of my defense and a week to get all materials to the graduate school.

26654. iiibbb - 12/17/2011 4:00:31 AM

Bless my MiL's heart...

My wife bought B a book about X-mas and Chanukah called "my two holidays". Her mom said it made her want to vomit. My wife even let's fly with a few anti-Christian sentiments every so often. Mostly because talking about religion offends their sensibilities.

I've never said a peep about my Christian background to them and only support my son being Jewish. They are oblivious to the comments they occasionally make stinging a bit.

Ah well.

26655. thoughtful - 12/17/2011 4:41:05 AM

Well of course you don't have to be jewish to have anti xtian sentiments...i was raised catholic, haven't been to church since i was 14 and still harbor many anti xtian sentiments....

26656. iiibbb - 12/17/2011 5:06:38 AM

Yeah... but it's ironic that their response is as bad as the traits they complain about. I mean I've got no love of X-mas marketing in October, but the boy is being raised in a family with one parent with a Christian background (although I am a non-denominational Protestant-agnostic who believes that one's relationship with God is personal and doesn't require external validation - and that Christian Doctrine is too buggered up to give anyone much to say about anyone else's standing with God).

But still, despite my seemingly weak convictions, to hear her mom say that a book like this makes her vomit feels a little harsh.

I respect Judaism. I respect it's longevity and adherence to tradition. I do consider it to be 1/2 culture and 1/2 religion. The culture aspect is the main reason I'd never convert.
