3i3b,

I agree with you about two years of service after high school. I think it would be a way to get rich kids into real life and poor kids out into the wider world....although I'm sure I couldn't sell it that way or be declaimed for social engineering or something.

At any rate, I think it's good for everyone to spend a good chunk of time working toward the benefit of others without thoughts of compensation or how to advance personal employement or monetary goals.

substitute "decried" for "declaimed"

Rusty. Talking to teens has made my vocabulary very, very rusty.

Thoughtful - I'm not worried about the boy. My wife and I are on the same page, and the boy is going to be raised Jewish anyway. I don't think Christianity is something one can really claim until they are older.

We also got the book... it wasn't that good. We're going to donate it to something.

isbs, you might enjoy this book if you haven't seen it....

If you've ever wondered why people pay millions and millions to get elected to a position that pays $174,000 a year, it's because of the rampant opportunities for self dealing once you're in. Peter Schweizer has researched and documented such dealings...all perfectly legal...on the part of both party members. Stunning.

I think you meant to post this in Politics....interesting read, however!

Just getting over the worst stomach virus I've ever had after 3 days. Hope no one I came in contact with gets it. They were talking about it at school but I didn't think anything about it. Two days ago went to the emergency room snd saw on fb others had to do the same. Glad to finally be feeling a little better.

26683. judithathome - 12/21/2011 9:48:31 PM

Are you sure it wasn't something to do with food? (I know at your other school you would take your lunch but for everyone to end up in the ER, it sounds almost food-borne...)

Sorry to hear it was so brutal...or that you got it at all.

26684. arkymalarky - 12/21/2011 10:30:38 PM

No, it was an extra bad virus that's been making the rounds the last few weeks. The nurse assistant had it and the nurse's daughter. Some fif the kids had it during school and it hit me two says after getting out. Grading papers is what usually does it but I've had most everything.

26685. arkymalarky - 12/21/2011 10:31:59 PM

Thanks. I'd hate to see anyone with it. So far Stan seems okay. He's been a huge help.

For teachers' amusement

A short film.

26687. arkymalarky - 12/22/2011 5:13:16 AM

Love it! In my new job I'm getting questions I haven't had in tears because a lot if the kids don't know me. One is about extra credit. I tell them what my husband does: do the credit then cime ask me. He has some good lines. When kids ask for a free day he tells them it will be free. He won't charge them a dime.

Mele Kalikimaka, everyone, from our house to yours by way of Keoni's ancestral language!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Down in LA with the bro and his chirrun --- two of them just getting over the stomach virus. Eeep!

Have seen Mission Impossible and Sherlock Holmes and thoroughly enjoyed both. I have no idea why the critics are panning Holmes. We had a great time.

Hope all you and yours are healthy and happy!

Merry Christmas everyone, and a happy, healthy 2012!

Happy feet to all!

We gave shoes this Christmas. Above: a niece, two daughters and a nephew.

(Back story : after shopping at the mall the other day in New Zealand, my better half remarked on the posters that said "Happy Feet" (advertising an animated film), noting that she hadn't seen that expression before. She thought it was the English equivalent of the French "Joyeuses f^etes"... in her defense, English is her fourth, arguably fifth language)

26694. arkymalarky - 12/26/2011 9:28:22 AM

Hey! Great to see you!

26695. bhelpuri - 12/29/2011 7:41:46 AM

Seasons Greetings, dear old friends. Hope all well. Will try and connect regularly in the coming year.

26696. bhelpuri - 12/29/2011 7:42:51 AM

Love the shoes, Connor. Which one of those girly feet is yours?!
