Thanks! I will! Her SIL is a well known lawyer in AR and he's been there for everything, but he says at age 84 they rarely get anywhere legally with their medical care.
U
Medical professionals lure elderly patients into surgery with the idea their quality and length of life will be improved. They make buttloads of money doing that. She would have died without the surgery but now she may have a working heart and no life quality. I read an article about this a while back. I'm not saying she shouldn't have the surgery, but elderly people aren't cash cows to be cut on and tossed aside.

The sil is also the state rep for the district the hospital is in.

As you know, Keoni and I fell off the non-smoking wagon in June and two months ago, decided to get Chantix to quit once and for all...took the prescriptions to the pharmacy and they said "Sorry, your insurance doesn't cover this...that will $560 for both scripts."

Came home, without the pills, and called our insurance provider. They said we were "disallowed" because of age restrictions. Keoni was taking to them and I was asking him what the reasons were...he said "We're too old...they cut us off for that drug at age 64." I literally YELLED at the phone..."So it's better to get money out of us for chemotherapy??"

I told my surgeon about this last week and she said, very seriously, "No, it's better for them for you to DIE...they want you dead."

To make a long story short, our primary care doc was so angry about this, he got us coupons and we got the scripts for $240 for both. AND we've quit smoking.

Good for you! Mose goes on a rant loop when the topic of insurance comes up.

Geez Louise, don't even get me started. The boss changed insurance companies in June and while he's delighted to be saving money, I told him that his savings just shifts the cost to those who can't really afford it. I'm taking almost a $1000/year pay cut due to increased co-pays. One drug co-pay alone has gone from $30 to $100 every four weeks. He has agreed to reimburse me the difference, but still...

And since the hospital I go to is now a "for profit" venture, they get your surgery co-pay up front, just to be sure. I'm having more surgery on one foot in a couple weeks (not a huge deal this time) and I had to put almost $1000 on a credit card during pre-registration. I'm lucky I can do that.

Amazing. And the rich get richer.

Shitfire. You're so right. It's shameful.

It works. I have one of these sitting on a floor tile that is on a metal plant holder. The tile is quite warm. I wouldn't put it on the floor or a shelf like he does in the video.

Damn refresh. And the video isn't showing. The link works.

27732. wabbit - 11/24/2013 2:13:52 AM

And now I see the video. Sigh.

How cool! We could use that at our little CO house. I really can't take wood heat and we don't have gas. Only electric

27734. wabbit - 11/24/2013 2:32:09 AM

Worth trying anyway. You could set up a few of these, cheap enough for the bits and pieces. Mine including the floor tile probably cost about $5. I'm thinking of soaking the large pot in warm water before starting it up next time.

27735. arkymalarky - 11/24/2013 2:42:31 AM

I'll definitely try it in CO. It gets down in the 30s even in July.

At night.

That is awesome, Wabbit! I sent the link to different family members and plan to try it myself, soon. I think I have a couple of pots out in the yard. The tea lights should be available for cheap. I know I got a bunch of them in San Francisco when my daughter hauled me out to IKEA there...and I think I have a coupon for bed bath & beyond.

I think a fluted pot would have more surface area to radiate heat. At least that is the principle with my mother's Norwegian wood heater.

27739. arkymalarky - 11/24/2013 9:06:21 PM

Any craft store will have them for cheap. I bought something like 250 a couple of years ago for under $5.

27740. arkymalarky - 11/24/2013 9:07:50 PM

I got them at hobby lobby.

Yet another reason to love this job: our principal is cooking for us today.
