We split a bottle of wine and watched Kathy Griffith and Anderson Cooper. It's become a yearly tradition for us. They crack us both up.

Ran into Woden on a forum today...she says "hey!".

And do your brains a favor and check out the videos on Vihart or look her up on youtube. A student told Stan about her and she's amazing. I know I'm stating the obvious, but there's really a lot of jaw-dropping stuff on youtube.

Ok. I'll make it super easy. This is a link to a video with sound: Vihart on algorithms.
She calls herself a mathemusician.

Happy New Year everyone! Hope it's not too late to wish you all the very best in 2014. To express my affection, I am going to give you the recette for an almond and orange yogurt cake, which I made last night and with which I am drinking the remaining prosecco for breakfast (some of us haven't figured out that it's January).

Greek Yogurt and Orange are the Star Ingredients in this very rich and fluffy cake. As I am not a chocolate person, this is bliss.

Almond and Orange Yogurt Cake

--12 tbsp. (1 1/2 sticks) butter (room temp)
-- 1 2/3 cup sugar
--6 wide strips orange zest (plus 1 tbsp. finely grated)
--3/4 cups semolina flour
--3/4 cup all purpose flour
--1/2 cup blanched almonds
--1 tsp baking powder
--1/3 tsp salt
--2 large eggs + 1 egg YOLK
--1 tsp vanilla extract
--1 cup Greek yogurt Full fat, plus more for serving

Preheat oven to 350. Butter if you want a 9-inch cake pan.

In a saucepan, combine 2/3 CUP SUGAR, 1/2 cup water and orange strips. Boil until sugar is dissolved, 3 min.

Whisk flours, amonds, grated orange zest, baking powder, and salt.In another bowl, mix butter, 1 cup sugar until light and creamy. Add eggs, beat in vanilla. With mixer on low, alternately beat in flour mixture and yogurt, beginning and ending with flour.

Bake 50 minutes. Let cool in pan 10 min. Then invert onto a serving plate. Using a fork, poke shallow holes into top of cake and pour half of syrup. Serve with dollop of yogurt and remaining syrup

That sounds yummy!

Sounds really good, webfeet!

And Happy New Year.

Happy New Year from me to y'all too.

Connor, your daughter is indeed a promising photographer. But instead of a college course, I recommend instead internships with practicing professionals. You can learn considerably more carrying bags in that environment than from most any "teacher" of the art form.

hmm, you met her in NY too didn't you? Dancing in an Irish pub.

Sometimes I sing to my cats. They don't care whether or not I'm on key, and one cat has a special song just for herself that must be sung off key or she won't acknowledge that you are singing to her.

With that preamble, I was trying to rid myself of an earworm, Harry Nilsson's (a personal fave) Remember. Sadly, once the higher keys hit, I butchered the song. No biggie, who can hear me but the two cats, right? I wish I had a video camera running, the distress on their faces was priceless. I'm still laughing.

Ohhhh! I guess cats are more honest than people.;)
