Message # 28063 Alistair, I have a DeBuyer Mineral B Element Country Cheff Iron Pan that works well with induction. It isn't a wok, you can't get the food up on the sides, but it's a very nice pan. Mine is 9.4", perfect for me, but you might want the 12.6". Like all iron pans, it's heavy and requires some care, but you'll have it forever.

we plan to make a day trip to Galveston

Let me know if they still sell stuffed crabs on the boardwalk...or if there IS a boardwalk left...

28095. Ms. No - 7/12/2014 7:44:17 PM

There was pretty much nothing original left of the boardwalk when we were there last year. We'll be going to Kimo (Kima?) this time to scope it out for bringing the kids. It's on the inland side of the island, I believe, so there may be more original businesses left there.

In case people didn't see it in the teacher thread, a book about rural Ed that is partly about Delight:

I think I've said here before that in my opinion "I told you so" is a consolation prize for smart people. Mose hates it when I tell her that, but man I've been applying it with my parents here lately. Had to drive over to the emergency room with Dad yesterday because he's having visual issues like I get with migraines, & I have said repeatedly he needs to talk to a neurologist, but they never did. And the doctor didn't send him to one, so I'm going to be getting called every time something happens because he doesn't know what's a concern and what's not anymore since he fell. and they're in the middle of moving, and it's about to drive me nuts in general. Stan doesn't realize that one reason I love going to Colorado is crap like this. You just need to get away for a couple weeks where you're simply not available: sorry. I have no idea what you're going to do about it. I'm in Colorado.

28098. Ms. No - 7/17/2014 4:48:24 AM

I will be adding that to my list of brush-offs.

Need my help in the 11th hour after I warned you this would happen?

So sorry. You'll have to figure that out on your own. I'm in Colorado."

It's going right up there with "Not my monkeys. Not my circus."

Stan loves that one! somebody said that at the gathering. Maybe Chris?

28100. judithathome - 7/17/2014 9:40:46 PM

Yes, it WAS Chris...I just love him!

28101. arkymalarky - 7/17/2014 10:00:26 PM

yeah, and that's a great thing considering they're the ones who called y'all cyber people!

28102. arkymalarky - 7/17/2014 10:01:36 PM

14 years ago? hard to believe.

28103. Ms. No - 7/17/2014 10:59:20 PM

Yep, that was Chris's. I told him I was appropriating it. :-)

28104. arkymalarky - 7/18/2014 1:15:20 AM

I think we all are. The gathering's first meme!

28105. arkymalarky - 7/18/2014 1:18:35 AM

July 17th, 64 degrees, and I have had on the car heater and worn a jacket. I don't think that's ever happened in Arkansas since I've known of anyway.

28106. judithathome - 7/18/2014 5:16:33 PM

I recall one gathering, early on, when we were sitting at the metal table out back (this was way before the outdoor pen for Maizy) so that we could see the stars and it was so chilly you brought out throws and jackets for all the ladies. May not have been 64° but it was damned chilly!

Fifty-one on arrival in Wisconsin Tuesday. This followed 101 in Oklahoma along the way and high 90s at home in Texas. Very nice here today, about 60 at wakeup and our heroin-dealing former neighbors are gone along with all their clutter and squealing brats. Been too long since we could enjoy the pleasant little screened-in back porch. The good old boy landlord (and a helpful friend) is making repairs before renting again. Hope it takes all summer. Quiet is nice.

28108. arkymalarky - 7/18/2014 10:12:37 PM

I can so relate Robert! I'm anxious to get to our deck in Colorado. We have lots of neighbors, but a private yard, and the preferred drug in Colorado leaves everybody pretty laid back and chill, so we never had an issue. Now that it's legal it will be less so I'm sure.

yeah judith, Stan told me I'm misremembering. I do that a lot.

28109. robertjayb - 7/18/2014 11:58:30 PM

Today is our 50th wedding anniversary and it is fish-fry Friday night in Wisconsin. Two unquestionably important events. We're returning to the seen of my pre-wedding day antics. Doubt if I'll be able to sink as many brandy manhattans as fifty years ago. Maybe spouse will take up Gibsons again.

28110. arkymalarky - 7/19/2014 2:18:08 AM

oh how wonderful! Congratulations!

28111. robertjayb - 7/19/2014 5:25:08 PM

Well, if you had been on the scene fifty years ago you might have seen a scene. Doesn't every guy get married with a hangover?

I handed off the keys after two drinks and had just one more. Better for it this am. I was wrong about spouse's favorite tipple in wayback times. Gimlets, not Gibsons. And she had one after her usual bloody Mary.

28112. arkymalarky - 7/19/2014 6:33:55 PM

Awwwww....
I've known 2 or 3 who got married when they were drunk.
