28312. arkymalarky - 12/10/2014 8:11:24 PM oh yay! can't wait! 28313. arkymalarky - 12/14/2014 9:15:08 PM Somebody killed in a car wreck first bridge up from my house in the bottoms. they just found them. Some people stopped by our house and said they saw a car upside down by the creek. Very upsetting. 28314. robertjayb - 12/15/2014 8:31:41 PM I guess. Local person?
In way, way back times I remember a distant neighbor ran a Model T (got that?: Model T) off the road and into a rain-filled dish by our farm. An older woman, probably the guy's mother, was pinned in what was actually just a ditch and drowned. I was there when they pulled her out of the water. Probably the first dead person I ever saw. Still have that picture in my head. 28315. judithathome - 12/16/2014 12:29:49 AM Oh, Arks...I know exactly where you mean...that must be sooo upsetting and reminiscent of the young girl who died when Mose was in high school. 28316. arkymalarky - 12/16/2014 1:51:45 AM You're right judith. Her wreck was very similar to what Robert described above. This man wasn't under the water, but he had been there all night. Yesterday a young black couple we didn't know came up from the bottoms and stopped at the house and told spook and stan and Ronnie they saw the truck down under the bridge and asked if we knew anything about it, and they said no. I was in the house, so they all went down there and the young man and stan both looked in the truck and did not see anyone in it. The young man found some papers and looked at the name and he said I work with this guy, and he went up the road to the neighbors deer camp and they came down along with them and the man's ex wife, and she climbed down into the ravine where the truck was upside down and saw his hand sticking out of it. You couldn't even see the truck driving from our direction through the bottoms. They just happened to see it since they were driving from the other way.
Had we been outside, we probably would have heard it, & I feel really bad that he was there all night with nobody knowing he was there, but from the looks of the truck and what the EMT said that spook and stan heard, he probably died on impact.
Yes, Robert, I don't know him personally but our friends do, and he had been at a wedding party that evening with some friends of ours, but they said he didn't seem like he was drunk or anything. It was very foggy and those bridges are a crime. They're made out of the bottoms of railroad cars, and if you slip off of one, which he apparently did and rode down the whole length of the bridge with two wheels on the road and two wheels off, you're going to have a very bad wreck. This is the second person I know who was killed on one of these bridges, and one of them was a former student of mine. 28317. thoughtful - 12/16/2014 4:06:02 AM So sorry to hear this arky. Very upsetting.
Anyway, I just dropped in to give everyone my best holiday wishes by sharing this year's card and haiku. We got 2 new kittens in June who grace the cover.
Togetherness...Love
Encircles all living things
Bringing contentment
I hope everyone here has a wonderful holiday season, and that the new year brings nothing but health, happiness, prosperity and pleasant surprises. 28318. arkymalarky - 12/16/2014 4:18:03 AM Thoughtful! So great to see you here, and your card so pleasant and pretty! really puts a smile on my face. 28319. judithathome - 12/16/2014 11:51:43 PM Mine, too...being "cat" people now, it is especially touching. Happy holidays to you and yours, Thoughtful, and don't be a stranger! (We have a "tuxedo" kitty, too...!) 28320. wabbit - 12/18/2014 3:31:19 AM Sorry to hear the news Arky. These kinds of things always remind me of Jessica Savitch. I can't tell you how many times I had dinner at Chez Odette and remarked about how dangerous the exit along the canal was. It was fixed years later and now doesn't even look familiar to me. That's a good thing.
And now I have to go next door and beat the crap out of my screeching neighbor who has no idea how much I know about her private life...sigh. 28321. wabbit - 12/18/2014 3:35:52 AM t'ful, what a wonderful card! Any calendar photos? Happy Holidays!
I'm down to one senior feline now, having lost my tuxedo a few months ago. She's at least 16 years old (could be more, but not less), has allergies and doesn't bother cleaning herself like she used to, but she's my pal and is on my lap as soon as I sit. She was feral when I got her, nobody wanted her because she wasn't friendly and didn't want to cuddle. If they could see her now...! 28322. judithathome - 12/18/2014 9:40:30 PM Thoughtful, Love how you shot "black and white" in color!! 28323. judithathome - 12/18/2014 9:41:05 PM Posted too quickly...it's like a Whistler. 28324. judithathome - 12/19/2014 1:01:14 AM And now I have to go next door and beat the crap out of my screeching neighbor who has no idea how much I know about her private life...sigh.
And how did THAT turn out??? ;-) 28325. Ms. No - 12/19/2014 5:08:05 PM So, it's a little early in the day, but I'm firing up the hot tub for any who stop by. Help yourself to a glass of bubbly, as well, and give a toast to absent friends. 28326. arkymalarky - 12/19/2014 6:07:45 PM perfect plan for the day! I'm out for break, and it sounds like a wonderful way to unwind and reminisce. 28327. robertjayb - 12/20/2014 7:22:42 PM Juanita Jean on continuing embarrassing crap at Texas Universities...
Condaleezza Rice a front-runner for University of Texas President:
Well, I guess we could look at it as the Trifecta of NeoCon Bamboozlers.
We have Ken Starr at Baylor and Alberto Gonzales, who should have gone to jail, got a cushy job at Texas Tech.
There is an upside to Rice. Maybe Cheney will help her devise a student discipline plan.
Reminder: When you lay down with dogs ….
28328. robertjayb - 12/20/2014 7:48:11 PM Further from Lone Star academia:
Outgoing governor Rick Perry, he of Oops! fame, yesterday respectfully declined a proposal from Texas A&M regents, all of whom he appointed, to have his name on the school's iconic academic building. Current students and even Aggie former students disapproved mightily. Of course Perry, now sporting serious eyeglasses, wants another presidential tryout and may be warming up as well to lead A&M. 28329. robertjayb - 12/20/2014 8:49:48 PM Now, Arky...serious stuff...like the UT vs. Razorbacks in the Texas Bowl... Up above there somewhere I made Arkansas a 6-point underdog. No gambler me I must have misread the line. Now I believe they are up by 5. As
they should be after whomping Ole Miss.
Nevertheless, I propose a wager. That being a modest feast of the best burgers or barbecue or fried chicken in your vicinity. Winnings to be collected someday. Perhaps in June/July or early October, depending on the time and routes of our Wisconsin travels.
Though an expat, I think, I suppose you would want the hogs.
28330. judithathome - 12/20/2014 10:22:40 PM This is a spectacular gathering of individuals and deserves your time:
Stephen Colbert Bids Farewell To His Show and His Character With Star-Studded Rendition of "We'll Meet Again" 28331. arkymalarky - 12/21/2014 3:30:32 AM Oh yay! I would love that one! I wouldn't even mind losing in that case, except I'm so glad the Razorbacks are doing a decent job.
you're on!
