Thanks, Judith. I enjoyed that. So much so that spouse is being a bit catty about me humming and whistling the tune. She did not care for Colbert at all so he was seldom seen around here. BTW YouTube has quite a selection of Vera Lynn's songs. I prefer the Colbert to the original. It's swingier. Also, I had forgotten that "We'll Meet Again" was the music in Dr. Strangelove where Slim Pickens rode the bomb into oblivion and I presume, WWIII.

Joe Cocker, dead at 70. Damn. My favorite: his version of Randy Newman's (see Colbert farewell) "You can leave your hat on,"
especially with Kim Basinger's striptease I the movie "9 and 1/2 weeks." Also "Unchain my Heart."

28337. judithathome - 12/22/2014 10:34:31 PM

I agree with you about the Cocker faves...hadn't remembered "Leave Your Hat On..."

However, I may be the only one in the world who hated "Up Where We Belong" and "You Are So Beautiful"...to me, Cocker was a rocker, not a woo-er.

Awww man. bummer.

28339. wabbit - 12/23/2014 1:06:21 AM

Many years ago I had a neighbor who waited on Joe Cocker one evening. She was so disappointed when he passed out face down in his plate. She swore it was true.

Best video use of "You Can Leave Your Hat On". Damn, Mickey Rourke was hot.

That said, my favorite video version of "You Can Leave Your Hat On" was from "The Full Monty". Very appropriate there. But Tom Jones, not Joe Cocker.

And lest we forget, written by Randy Newman.

RIP JC.

I'm with you Judith --- I particularly hated those power-schmaltz tunes of the 80's --- but definitely think Cocker's version of YCLYHO is the best, and that's saying something since I adore Randy Newman.

Mickey Rourke WAS hot and if he hadn't lost his friggin' mind, he'd still be hot-looking.

Well...might as well go for "last post" on the top four threads....

Merry Christmas tomorrow for all my Motie pals!

Hey Judith, hey all... Congrats to iii, commiserations to the Arkies, etc...

I've got this five and a half kilo capon to cook for dinner. I ordered it from a farmer friend, but had no idea it would be such a monster. And it turns out that there will only be three of us to eat it tonight, me and the girls. Christmas is complicated, when you have to deal with the ongoing wreckage of a failed family recomposition scenario.

My plans to buy a house with Madame are stalled by the fact that there are no circumstances in which she can imagine welcoming my daughters into her home. How did that happen? Well, it's a long story.

28345. wabbit - 12/25/2014 4:02:32 PM

Congrats iiibbb, that is very good news!

Merry Christmas Moties - may you all enjoy the holidays and have a happy and healthy 2015!

28346. arkymalarky - 12/25/2014 6:04:33 PM

Merry Christmas, everyone!

28347. judithathome - 12/25/2014 7:25:54 PM

Merry Christmas, Y'ALL!

(Alistair, not to intrude but sounds as though you've chosen the right two....)

28348. judithathome - 12/26/2014 8:57:26 PM

Here's a card I got yesterday morning next to my coffee:

"Good Morning! We thought a nice Christmas card from us would make your day! Keoni went out and got this card for us so we could show you our appreciation for all the things you've done to make us comfy and warm. Although we like Keoni better than you, you always keep us company. (He didn't get you anything but he said he really likes his new golf club.) From Ike and Harley."

And there are two little paw prints on the bottom of the page.

Oh man! It's not letting me! Is the gist smack against the Razorbacks , or enthusiasm about the horns, or both or the opposite?

28353. arkymalarky - 12/28/2014 9:59:04 PM

Were gonna make me register and covered up the whole article. I'm in the car on way to see my Mose.

28354. arkymalarky - 12/28/2014 11:06:25 PM

saw the first under $2 a gallon gas sign. The good ol days are back. We come home tomorrow, and we're going to have some friends watch the game with us and root for the Hogs against UT. It's like we're in a time warp or something.
