28474. Iiibbb - 2/20/2015 2:02:39 PM My dad is in the hospital. Stroke symptoms either because of a stroke or blood infection. High fever.
I feel pessimistic and guilty I don't feel more. Life has always felt inevitable to me. My mom and dad and family are more religious than I am, so there is a lack of connection on that wavelength.
I am worried and hopeful that this is transient. I'm not panicked because there is nothing unsaid between me and my dad.
The universe is big and old.
Who knows what happens to souls.
I'd be an atheist if it weren't for souls. As it is I'm a amystical Christian agnostic something or another.
Well anyway.... That's my day today 28475. Iiibbb - 2/20/2015 2:22:22 PM My dad is in the hospital. Stroke symptoms either because of a stroke or blood infection. High fever.

Fever and stroke are not good together 28478. judithathome - 2/20/2015 9:28:48 PM No, not a good sign but not necessarily dire...my son had so many TIAs and several more severe strokes over the years. So don't jump to conclusions...the fever could be from a mild infection but it sounds worse because he happened to have a stroke at the same time as the fever.
28479. judithathome - 2/20/2015 9:31:58 PM back in the early 80's?
Only biggie exhibit in the early 80s I recall is the Chinese TerraCotta Soldiers. (in FW, anyhow...in Dallas, it was Tut.)
Keoni I left the area in '82 so I missed the "biggest" winter storm in memory...I think that's the one to which you are referring. 28480. iiibbb - 2/20/2015 9:40:48 PM Last conversation I had with mom it was 50:50, so it's bad. Traveling tomorrow probably in case decisions need to be made.
Need to talk to my 5 yr old. He's figured out that people die and it has been on his mind for a few months.
He will worry if I leave without talking about it. 28481. iiibbb - 2/20/2015 9:43:33 PM He had gas bubbles throughout his brain - whatever that means. This is strictly to do with a blood infection, and apparently not related to the heart ablations he had 3 weeks ago.
Unless that is what introduced the pathogen. I would also be interested if he might have had an infection, and the greatly improved circulation after his surgery didn't allow it to spread. 28482. judithathome - 2/20/2015 10:14:35 PM Well, if you can, before you leave...read up on this sort of thing so the doctor will know you that you are hearing/understanding and are willing to check him out on the info he gives you....some doctors talk down to people because they don't give them credit for having brains. 28483. judithathome - 2/20/2015 10:18:07 PM A doctor friend of mine once told me: "We're not Gods...it's up to you all* to remind us of that fact."
*(she's Texan) 28484. iiibbb - 2/20/2015 10:47:18 PM After our miscarriages and being introduced to research doctors who are willing to talk about the science, my expectations have changed. 28485. arkymalarky - 2/21/2015 7:15:39 PM We'll be thinking about you 3i3b. 28486. arkymalarky - 2/21/2015 7:20:01 PM Wabbit, blink if you still have electricity!
66 degrees and storming here. 38 and freezing rain yesterday, dropping today, cold again tomorrow, more freezing rain. One day years ago before I was around, Stan and I think spook saw snow sleet sunshine thunder lightning and rain in one day. 28487. wabbit - 2/21/2015 8:53:11 PM iiibbb, I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I hope his health is improving.
My mother has been diagnosed with cirrhosis, has serious edema of her ankles and abdomen and is showing signs of hepatic encephalopathy. She's had a few episodes, so it appears to be chronic and she is not aware of how dotty she is when it happens. I'm the only one in the family willing to talk to her about it and try to get her to retire. Of course, if she retires (she's 82, for crying out loud), my parents will have to sell the house, and that means the two grown grandchildren living with and off them will have to go back to their own parents. Boo Hoo. 28488. wabbit - 2/21/2015 8:58:10 PM As you see, I still have power. If it's going to go, it might be this weekend. The temps are going up to the low 30's tonight and we'll have rain. The many feet of snow on the ground and on the roof will be like a sponge. It will be great if the gutters thaw and the roof snow slides down to the ground, but I'm not hopeful. Then Monday will drop back down to the teens or lower, so everything will be ice. Driving to work Monday morning is going to be interesting. 28489. arkymalarky - 2/21/2015 9:33:43 PM Oh my. There's just no good way to navigate ice. My brother and his wife got stuck on the interstate once we literally hours because I said falling so fast it shut down everything before anybody could treat the roads. 28490. arkymalarky - 2/21/2015 9:34:33 PM how do you think your mother will function if she retired? Will she be okay with it? 28491. wabbit - 2/21/2015 9:52:35 PM She'd be fine with retirement if she didn't have my father to deal with (nevermind the 25 and 32 year olds). She doesn't want to stay home with him and I don't blame her. He hasn't worked for 25+ years and still expects to be catered to. The grandchildren are no help either, although the 25 year old is by far the lesser of two evils. She doesn't help with the housework, but at least she has a job that allows her to pay her own car expenses. The 32 year old just does not want to work and he won't as long as his grandmother won't say anything to him or my sister (his mother). It's a mess. 28492. wabbit - 2/21/2015 10:32:41 PM And the snow begins again. We'll get another 3" before it changes to rain later tonight. 28493. arkymalarky - 2/21/2015 10:41:12 PM I have a friend who wished she hadn't retired for that exact reason. Her husband is driving her nuts. He has his own business, and expects her to be at his beck and call all the time.
