Thinking of you today, 3i3b...

28514. robertjayb - 2/23/2015 11:52:11 PM

Me too. I overruled my sister to sit with my father the night he died and have always been glad that I did. But don't hang the crepe just yet.

28515. robertjayb - 2/23/2015 11:53:32 PM

Got ice, judith? Watch your step.

28516. Iiibbb - 2/24/2015 1:57:11 AM

He passed w/in two hours of comfort only decision. Perfectly played in my mind

28517. arkymalarky - 2/24/2015 3:08:22 AM

I'm sorry. I'll be thinking of you and your family.

28518. thoughtful - 2/24/2015 3:23:42 PM

So sorry, IsBs. My deepest sympathies.

Sorry to hear about your dad, iii. Glad for him that it was sudden, and it sounds like the right decisions were taken. The patient always needs a strong and determined advocate in that situation, because the medical crew will always be conservative. I found myself in that position when my father was dying.

I hope your mother will be OK.

28520. judithathome - 2/24/2015 9:21:47 PM

You all did the right thing, 3i...he knew.

28521. judithathome - 2/24/2015 9:23:43 PM

Robert...we had a nasty day yesterday but it's all melting today...if Keoni COULD, he would be at the golf course with one of those huge blowers, drying out the grounds.

He's going crazy, being confined.

28522. wabbit - 2/24/2015 10:22:37 PM

My condolences to you and your family, iiibbb.

28523. Trillium - 2/25/2015 1:57:47 AM

Wishing you and your family well, iiibbb.

What's happening your way Judith? We're out of school tomorrow. It's ice now. It was lots of rain before.

28525. Ms. No - 3/5/2015 11:20:16 PM

Condolences, i3b3. We know all our lives that this grief is coming someday, but that doesn't diminish it in the least. Be well.

am alive and well. Have found library has 'puters to use. Been a year since gave up being on line. It is after all a fee country, ( R was a misprint), and my pocket ain't that deep. Glad to see the old names, though I have never seen the faces. Bottom line; am not living high on the hog but am out of the mud. Be back again someday. Lem

buying a house... made a bid... they took it.

Trying to decide whether to let the $1000 earnest money go and make a bid on a farmhouse that needs an addition and remodel for us to fit, but has 1.5 acres in the city.

First house... ready to go except for some minor remodels; lots of neighbors with kids, best for the geriatric cat, good room sizes, lots of storage..... postage stamp lawn (0.3 ac) and not a ton of privacy.

Farm house... 1.5 acres with a house with access to hiking and $70,000 less. Old house with old house issues. Livable, but we don't fit and it needs a comprehensive remodel and addition to work for us. 1 neighbor who is nice. Privacy in spades. It would be great.

X-factor.... how long are we going to be here? If my job goes away in 3 or 4 years and we have to leave would all the work we put into a dream house be for naught? The first home is probably easier to turn over and they took our bid which is $5 per sq foot under comps. If things become secure here... there will be other "dreams" that pop up I think.

28529. arkymalarky - 3/16/2015 10:29:41 PM

my input on this would not be dependable. I would always go for the rural house.

I did fall in love with a fixer upper years ago, before we finally decided to build our house where we wanted to live, and my principal said it would nickel and dime me to death. I know he was right, and though it was an excellent price, it would have been a money pit. But I cried over that house.

28530. judithathome - 3/16/2015 10:32:11 PM

I'd advise taking the "not" farmhouse...simply because of the resale.

Face it, you will never get the re-model money back. Period...unless you plan to stay there the rest of your life.

You should go with the one that is in the best school district.

28531. iiibbb - 3/16/2015 10:41:35 PM

I think the farmhouse could be a huge win or a huge poop.

Same school district. We're choosing based on the elementary school (which has great services - which our slightly attention challenged older child could benefit from).

The 1.5 ac house isn't really rural, it's a big lot that feels rural. If we didn't have kids I think it would be a no-brainer for the old "farm" house.

My wife is concerned we're being too conventional. I think the benefits outweigh the cost of being a little conventional.

28532. judithathome - 3/16/2015 10:56:06 PM

Not to sound jaded but I think "privacy" in a neighborhood is highly over-rated...trust me, no one CARES about getting to know you (the editorial American) and chances are you'll never have to deal w/your neighbors AT ALL...I saw my neighbor in the front yard this week and her twins are walking around like regular little persons...last time I talked to her, she had just HAD them.
