Glad you guys are all okay. It's times like this when I have to just shut up about how what passes for weather in California bores the crap out of me.

Just goes to show that even tornadoes don't want to visit Dallas.

Oh how I love this...need a bumper-sticker made up!

well, Mose is about to land in San Francisco. My son in law is giving a presentation at Stanford and working there a couple of days, and she got to go with him. her school is very nice to accommodate her for the trip.

28609. Ms. No - 5/21/2015 1:56:22 AM

I hope they get a little time to explore the city. I wouldn't want to live there, but it's great to visit!

28610. arkymalarky - 5/21/2015 2:07:57 AM

she'll have a lot. I doubt Tommy will have that much except in the evenings. she's already made a lot of plans and she's really excited to have some me time.

28611. arkymalarky - 5/21/2015 5:48:57 PM

Okay. I'm getting food pics. I LOVE food pics.
Mose's description:
Organic Greek yogurt with honey, strawberries and walnuts and toasted Mayberry bread with Nutella mmmmm

San Francisco is food food food. If Mose has the opportunity, "Burma Superstar" might liven up her dream life with food dreams in the future... Samosa soup. Yum.

thanks for the tip! I will pass it on!

28614. judithathome - 5/22/2015 6:57:48 PM

Arky, can y'all get Nutella there? If not (which I can't imagine) we'll bring some with us for Mose when we head your way.

I like it with PB on graham crackers...few and far between but a great snack.

28615. arkymalarky - 5/22/2015 7:42:00 PM

Oh yes, we get it, but it's a splurge for her. She has planned for this food fest for weeks, and she'll be back to her standard fare when she gets home. She's walking everywhere, so that's something of an offset.

28616. judithathome - 5/22/2015 9:23:56 PM

Calories don't count when you're on vacation!

28617. arkymalarky - 5/22/2015 10:53:40 PM

That's her philosophy!

28618. Ms. No - 5/23/2015 6:21:37 PM

Yeah, just don't pack them in your suitcase on your return trip!

28620. arkymalarky - 5/23/2015 8:43:15 PM

They'll be in her carry-on. :|

It's been more years than I can remember since I have been here, and I was thrilled to see a poems from Nuplanetone as I scrolled around, filled with fondness as I saw handles I remember well, and struck sad reading of Irving's death.

He welcomed me to the Fray, answering an obscure question about baseball within 5 seconds -- the speed, clarity, detail, knowledge was just astounding to me! That whole Fray experience was profoundly meaningful for me at that time in my life, and in the strange way of life, that experience in The Fray allowed me to open doors and create possibilities that would not have been possible without that experience.

Irv was incredibly friendly, gracious and generous in person, as well as online. As were nearly everyone I interacted with there and here back in late 90's.

I watched The Bucket List on tv last night and heard a line about the two questions the Egyptian gods asked one once he was dead: did you find joy in life? And did you bring joy to the lives of others? Irving did. He will be welcomed in any afterlife he may find himself in.

I say thank you and God bless you to you now, Irving, as I have no other venue in which to do so.

28622. arkymalarky - 5/24/2015 4:57:18 AM

so glad you found us again, PD! are you still teaching? I'm in my 34th year, and will start my 35th next year. Don't know how long I'll go after that, but it's been a great ride.

back in the day, we found some people amazing, and some people just annoying. Time lends perspective, and with that, Irv was an amazingly, solidly, intelligent and balanced person. it's funny how the things that were so central to our online lives are so trivial now, but Irv stands out as the core of what is best about the fray and mote and the memories I most enjoy.

28623. judithathome - 5/24/2015 9:32:19 PM

Last two posts are the main reason I come here....thanks to both of you...and to memories of Irv...for the boost I needed today.

28624. vonKreedon - 5/25/2015 6:47:25 PM

Hey PD. Very nice remembrance of Irv. Irv was the only member of the Fray/Mote that I've actually met.

28625. judithathome - 5/27/2015 11:20:21 PM

Arky, heard today about one of the victims in the Houston floods...a homecoming queen on her way home who drowned in the floods...it reminded me of the girl who went to high school with Mose.

28626. arkymalarky - 5/28/2015 12:03:01 AM

That was sad. AR had a flash flood in 2010 that killed a number of people--around 30--and Stan was a friend of one who lost his wife. She was trying to save someone and the force of the water pulled her in. That family and their friends with small children in Texas is really sad.
