Last two posts are the main reason I come here....thanks to both of you...and to memories of Irv...for the boost I needed today.

Hey PD. Very nice remembrance of Irv. Irv was the only member of the Fray/Mote that I've actually met.

Arky, heard today about one of the victims in the Houston floods...a homecoming queen on her way home who drowned in the floods...it reminded me of the girl who went to high school with Mose.

28626. arkymalarky - 5/28/2015 12:03:01 AM

That was sad. AR had a flash flood in 2010 that killed a number of people--around 30--and Stan was a friend of one who lost his wife. She was trying to save someone and the force of the water pulled her in. That family and their friends with small children in Texas is really sad.

28627. judithathome - 6/1/2015 9:10:14 PM

I think the grandfather was with them, too...so sad.

Saw my surgeon today and she gave me a script for the trip...to calm me down while "on the road"...Keoni was taking me to the WRONG doc and had to turn around and freaked me out while making the turn...he said "Have you taken one of those pills she gives you TODAY?" and of course, I hadn't...heh.

Anyhow, when I told her a couple of years ago that when we come your way, I drank wine in the car all the way...she started giving me scripts for Ativan...said it was better than having an open container in the car!

28628. arkymalarky - 6/2/2015 2:13:25 AM

yeah, it would certainly be less expensive if you got stopped.

28629. arkymalarky - 6/7/2015 6:02:05 AM

Wondewing about Wabbit? Did you get to see the race?

28630. arkymalarky - 6/7/2015 8:13:05 PM

15th gathering, fantastic as usual, can't wait till next year!

28631. judithathome - 6/9/2015 12:00:04 AM

Ditto...fantastic food, fantastic conversation...all in all, "the usual" fantabulous weekend with good friends and exceptional hospitality!

28632. wabbit - 6/11/2015 11:33:55 PM

Wish I could have been there, but good to hear it was the usual wonderful weekend!

28633. arkymalarky - 6/11/2015 11:49:26 PM

You and No were asked about by several people.

28634. arkymalarky - 6/11/2015 11:55:12 PM

how are things with your parents?

28635. wabbit - 6/12/2015 10:15:15 PM

Mom is holding her own, we've had a few hospital stays (I stay with her when she goes in), but the last one scared her into paying attention to taking her meds. Dad is ok also, not much company for her, all he wants to do is be waited on while he does crossword puzzles and listens to big band music way too loud. Alas.

Worst is that the siblings have yet to remove the two adult grandchildren. My 25 year old niece and 32 year old nephew are still living off their grandparents, doing nothing to help out around the house and paying none of the bills. Neither they nor their parents seem to care that the grandparents have a limited income. I'm done trying to fix things, the two precious ones (my siblings) have gotten away with this kind of thing all their lives and nothing will change unless my parents say something to them (instead of to me). In fairness, the niece does buy groceries every two weeks or so, and cooks a meal about as often. The nephew is a complete waste of oxygen. I'd like to bitch-slap the lot of them.

However, I remind myself that I am the selfish asshole of the family and get back into my place, from where I serve and bite my tongue.

In other news, the Hokusai exhibit at the MFA is worth seeing. I ran into town today to see the DaVinci drawings before they go away, a very nice little exhibit, and whipped through Hokusai as well. I'll see it again, it is a larger show, theme being "The Great Wave" (of course). The entire "Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji" series is up, good to see it all at one time. I believe the MFA was the first museum outside of Japan to hold a solo exhibit of his work and has quite an extensive collection of Japanese artwork, particularly woodcuts.

28637. judithathome - 6/14/2015 6:03:55 AM

Hokusai...so envious of you seeing this exhibit! I wonder if it's travelling to Fort Worth...we get some really good ones here.

Did you ever see the DaVinci machine exhibit? Small replicas were made of the machines he drew and exhibited along with the drawings...a few of them were actual size, too, and some were interactive.

This was about 5 years ago...

28638. wabbit - 6/14/2015 4:44:05 PM

JaH, I don't think Hokusai is travelling.

I haven't seen the DaVinci Machines exhibit, keep hoping it will get a bit closer to me. I think it was in Baltimore or DC a few years ago and in Rochester NY just a few months ago. It seems to be a "Body Worlds" type exhibit, one that can be exhibited in a few places at the same time, so perhaps I'll see it someday.

28639. judithathome - 6/14/2015 5:46:39 PM

You'll LOVE it, I promise!!

Happy Father's Day, Mote dads!

CBS Sunday Morning is on and in the preview of their Father's Day segment, there is a new dad saying, about a new baby, something like you "get to know who they are, and *more importantly* they get to know who I am." LOL!

28641. wabbit - 6/21/2015 2:10:28 PM

Enjoy the long day today!

28642. arkymalarky - 6/21/2015 4:00:56 PM

Happy Fathers Day!
