28631. judithathome - 6/9/2015 12:00:04 AM Ditto...fantastic food, fantastic conversation...all in all, "the usual" fantabulous weekend with good friends and exceptional hospitality! 28632. wabbit - 6/11/2015 11:33:55 PM Wish I could have been there, but good to hear it was the usual wonderful weekend! 28633. arkymalarky - 6/11/2015 11:49:26 PM You and No were asked about by several people. 28634. arkymalarky - 6/11/2015 11:55:12 PM how are things with your parents? 28635. wabbit - 6/12/2015 10:15:15 PM Mom is holding her own, we've had a few hospital stays (I stay with her when she goes in), but the last one scared her into paying attention to taking her meds. Dad is ok also, not much company for her, all he wants to do is be waited on while he does crossword puzzles and listens to big band music way too loud. Alas.
Worst is that the siblings have yet to remove the two adult grandchildren. My 25 year old niece and 32 year old nephew are still living off their grandparents, doing nothing to help out around the house and paying none of the bills. Neither they nor their parents seem to care that the grandparents have a limited income. I'm done trying to fix things, the two precious ones (my siblings) have gotten away with this kind of thing all their lives and nothing will change unless my parents say something to them (instead of to me). In fairness, the niece does buy groceries every two weeks or so, and cooks a meal about as often. The nephew is a complete waste of oxygen. I'd like to bitch-slap the lot of them.
However, I remind myself that I am the selfish asshole of the family and get back into my place, from where I serve and bite my tongue. 28636. wabbit - 6/12/2015 10:23:40 PM < /whine >
In other news, the Hokusai exhibit at the MFA is worth seeing. I ran into town today to see the DaVinci drawings before they go away, a very nice little exhibit, and whipped through Hokusai as well. I'll see it again, it is a larger show, theme being "The Great Wave" (of course). The entire "Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji" series is up, good to see it all at one time. I believe the MFA was the first museum outside of Japan to hold a solo exhibit of his work and has quite an extensive collection of Japanese artwork, particularly woodcuts. 28637. judithathome - 6/14/2015 6:03:55 AM Hokusai...so envious of you seeing this exhibit! I wonder if it's travelling to Fort Worth...we get some really good ones here.
Did you ever see the DaVinci machine exhibit? Small replicas were made of the machines he drew and exhibited along with the drawings...a few of them were actual size, too, and some were interactive.
This was about 5 years ago... 28638. wabbit - 6/14/2015 4:44:05 PM JaH, I don't think Hokusai is travelling.
I haven't seen the DaVinci Machines exhibit, keep hoping it will get a bit closer to me. I think it was in Baltimore or DC a few years ago and in Rochester NY just a few months ago. It seems to be a "Body Worlds" type exhibit, one that can be exhibited in a few places at the same time, so perhaps I'll see it someday. 28639. judithathome - 6/14/2015 5:46:39 PM You'll LOVE it, I promise!! 28640. wabbit - 6/21/2015 2:05:46 PM Happy Father's Day, Mote dads!
CBS Sunday Morning is on and in the preview of their Father's Day segment, there is a new dad saying, about a new baby, something like you "get to know who they are, and *more importantly* they get to know who I am." LOL! 28641. wabbit - 6/21/2015 2:10:28 PM Enjoy the long day today! 28642. arkymalarky - 6/21/2015 4:00:56 PM Happy Fathers Day!
m.youtube.com/watch?v=ChdyOU4lQjY 28643. judithathome - 6/21/2015 5:55:05 PM That phrase "more importantly" has contributed greatly to my ulcer...every time I hear that, my blood boils and my ulcer just gnaws at my insides! 28644. judithathome - 6/21/2015 5:58:19 PM Where are my manners! Happy Fathers Day to all the Motie dads!
AND the summer solstice! We got a beautiful picture in the mail taken by our glass artist friend of the natural prairie near his house with the sun rising... 28645. bhelpuri - 6/24/2015 7:10:30 AM Nice to see PD show up here after many years, who was an integral part of attracting me to the old Fray. Hope all well, old friend.
I had a very peaceful Father's Day in the onslaught of the Arabian Sea monsoons - we stayed indoors (as per usual at this time of year) and watched two Hayao Miyazaki movies. Best wishes to all Motards. 28646. bhelpuri - 6/24/2015 7:13:56 AM If not exactly the anniversary, I do believe this (2015) is a full 20 years since many of us started interacting obsessively via Yahoo chatrooms (oh the humanity!) and more extensively on The Fray. 28647. arkymalarky - 6/24/2015 1:25:50 PM Hey Bhel!
The Fray was my first foray into online communication and the only one I really enjoyed. We had our 15th gathering this year and I got the idea from lemwalker, but I can't call up any timeline in my mind. The internet was new to my job and nonexistent at home, and if I recall we were one of the early schools to get internet. I ended up getting dial up at home just because of the Fray. That was back before any real graphics of any sort, much less my beloved flash room escape games. I also had the most laid back schedule I think I've ever had in my career. Lots of time to play on the Fray. Dad of course had internet, living in town, and he's the one who suggested I should check out the Fray. It never did really float his boat, but he thought I would like it. I need to look at archives. I know Mose was like 12 or 13 and we had just built our house. She's 30 now. 28648. arkymalarky - 6/24/2015 1:29:12 PM Speaking of, the most beautiful flash escape game ever:

28649. vonKreedon - 6/24/2015 7:09:04 PM The Fray was also my first online discussion experience and is also, along with the founding and first year or so of the Mote, my best such experiences by far.
28650. judithathome - 6/24/2015 8:27:58 PM I agree w/VK; the best of times!
...now I have a forum wherein a lunatic has attacked my privacy in a very disturbing way.
I long for the days when the worst that happened was an insult from CalGal. ;-)
