Just read transcripts of voice mail over at my forum. Seems old Ted was addicted to meth.

It would seem that those who criticize another's religion would at least firt make an honest effort to know something about it.

Here we have seen examples ad nauseum of persons doing exactly the opposite, condemning out of ignorance, bigotry, hate.

Those who care to know what they are talking about before they talk about it should watch Muhammad: The Legacy of a Prophet. Particularly moving and illuminating on many of the matters discussed here is found in the last 20 minutes in which Mohammed's Final Hajj Sermon on the Plain of Arafat is discussed.

In the sermon, Muhammed condemns the violence and tribal revenge killings that marked his life from birth. Muslim believe the Sermon to be a summary of the teachings of the Quran.

Those genuinely interest in learning before they speak should read a collection of essays by American Muslims:

The Final Sermon of the Prophet Muhammd

In essence, though not in substance, this Farewell Sermon of the Prophet is similar to the Jesus's Farewell Discourses in the Last Gospel.

    Jesus Prays for All Believers

20"My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: 23I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. 24"Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. 25"Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them."

John 13-17

Now that we've disposed of the last wave of bigotry, ignorance, hate, and hypocrisy, it is time for Judith's points!!!!

I agree...I got into over on the Mote in American Politics with this woman who was agonizing over poor Ted..."he must have been totured by this wicked feelings; my heart aches for him; we should all pray for him" yada yada yada.

Yeah, right

Toys Jen toys

I know you're upset. Shall I put you on the Parish Weekly Intercession list - for The Sick?

28749. jexster - 11/5/2006 3:59:59 AM

;)

28750. winstonsmith - 11/5/2006 4:23:57 AM

Really, it's as simple as this:

There are lots of religions and they can't all be right.

Gosh, I guess if you're really lucky, you might be born into a family that believes in the only true religion.

28751. concerned - 11/5/2006 6:54:25 AM

Give me a break, Winston.

28752. concerned - 11/5/2006 7:03:46 AM

I don't think you have shit worth reading on religion.

28753. judithathome - 11/5/2006 7:06:13 AM

I'm flattered you read there, Jen.

28754. judithathome - 11/5/2006 7:07:36 AM

You are damned lucky I don't return the favor and quote some of the stuff you and Ruth have to say. But to do that, I'd have to read over there and it makes me ill.

Ted Haggard dismissed from New Life Church

The board of overseers announced today that Pastor Ted Haggard will be dismissed from New Life Church. The board, comprised of four pastors outside New Life, said in a statement Haggard "had commited sexually immoral conduct."

The actual quote from the church's statement says:

We, the Overseer Board of New Life Church, have concluded our deliberations concerning the moral failings of Pastor Ted Haggard. Our investigation and Pastor Haggard’s public statements have proven without a doubt that he has committed sexually immoral conduct.

So, Jen, are they wrong or is it as we thought...the man is a lying hypocrite.

28756. winstonsmith - 11/5/2006 8:27:49 AM

Uh, sorry Concerned, for anyone willing to be honest with themselves, that *is* all there is to it.

You have to accept the fact that if there is really only one true god, all the other religions are false.

Then, you have to ask yourself whether your god is real or the other guy’s.

Religion has some utility. Believing in god might even be a hard wired human characteristic, but, the odds are stacked against any particular religion representing the one and only truth.

28757. concerned - 11/5/2006 8:38:59 AM

I thought you were teasing, since I doubt that any religion is the 'true' religion.

28758. winstonsmith - 11/5/2006 8:40:02 AM

Fair enough.
