Looney Jew Alert (via TPM)

Outrages come a dime a dozen these days. But here's one that deserves a few moments of attention. Dennis Prager, the Jewish and increasingly looney radio talk show host, says that Keith Ellison, the country's first elected Muslim congressman, shouldn't be in Congress if he won't take the oath of office on the Christian Bible. Click here for more details.

Iraq and the Christian Conscience

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied."
- Matthew 5:6

"Put not your faith in princes and sons of men, in whom there is no salvation."
- Psalm 146:3

If you saw the Military Channel's special on the Arkansas Natl Guard units in Iraq, you saw evidence of this

Group seeks probe of evangelical military video

A watchdog group that promotes religious freedom in the U.S. military accused senior officers on Monday using their rank and influence to coerce soldiers and airmen into adopting evangelical Christianity.

Such proselytizing, according to the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, has created a core of "radical" Christians within the U.S. armed forces and Pentagon who punish those who do not accept evangelical beliefs by stalling their careers.

"It's egregious beyond the pale," said Mikey Weinstein, president and founder of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation. "We apparently have a radicalized, evangelical Christian Pentagon within the rest of the Pentagon."

A Very Ecumenical Christmas

Religious maturity in the UK
Most people have no personal faith, the poll shows, with only 33% of those questioned describing themselves as "a religious person". A clear majority, 63%, say that they are not religious - including more than half of those who describe themselves as Christian.

I heard some numbers on the radio from a French opinion poll : 27% believe that Jesus is the son of God, i.e. are Christian. 17% see Jesus as a prophet (since that's higher than the proportion of Moslems, that shows an encouragingly high percentage of Christian heretics). Of the rest, half think Jesus was an ordinary man, the other half think he never existed.

Merry Christmas all the same!

O come, O come, Emmanuel,

    and ransom captive Israel,
that mourns in lonely exile here
until the Son of God appear.
    Refrain:
    Rejoice! Rejoice!
Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel

Gaudete heathen....

From Wikipedia

Gaudete" ("Rejoice") is a sacred Christmas carol, composed sometime in the 16th century, most likely in reference to Gaudete Sunday, the third Sunday in Advent. It is celebrated in the Roman Catholic Church falling between December 11 and December 17 inclusive. The song was published in the Piae Cantiones, a collection of Finnish/Swedish sacred songs published in 1582. No music is given for the verses, but the standard tune comes from older liturgical books.

The text, in Latin, is a typical song of praise, probably stemming from the Middle Ages. It follows the standard pattern for the time - a uniform series of four-line stanzas, each preceded by a two-line refrain (in the early English carol this was known as the burden). Carols could be on any subject, but typically they were about the Virgin Mary or the Saints of Christmas.

The complete text of the Gaudete, including the refrain:

      Gaudete, gaudete! Christus est natus
      Ex Maria virgine, gaudete!
      Tempus adest gratiae
      Hoc quod optibamus,
      Carmina laetitiae
      Devote redamus.
      Deus homo factus est
      Natura mirante,
      Mundus renovatus est
      A Christo regnante.
      Ezechielis porta
      Clausa pertransitur,
      Unde lux est orta
      Salus invenitur.
      Ergo nostra cantio,
      Psallat iam in lustro;
      Benedicat Domino:
      Salus Regi nostro.

      Translating as :

      Rejoice, rejoice! Christ is born
      Of the Virgin Mary, rejoice!
It is now the time of grace
      That we have desired;
      Let us devoutly return
      Songs of rejoicing.
      God has become man,
      And nature marvels;
      The world has been renewed
      By Christ who is King.
      The closed gate of Ezechiel
      Has been passed through;
      Hence the light rises
      Salvation is found.
      Therefore let our assembly
Now sing a hymn of purification
Let it give praise to the Lord:
      greetings to our King.

    Hodie Christus natus est:
    Hodie Salvator apparuit:
    Hodie in terra canunt Angeli,
    laetantur Archangeli
    Hodie exsultant justi, dicentes:
    Gloria in excelsis Deo.
    Alleluia.

    Today Christ is born:
    Today the Savior appeared:
Today on Earth the Angels sing,
    Archangels rejoice:
    Today the righteous rejoice, saying:
Glory to God in the highest.
    Alleluia.

Ford Funerals..Entrance Anthems
The Burial of the Dead:
Rite Two

I am Resurrection and I am Life, says the Lord.
Whoever has faith in me shall have life,
    even though he die.
    And everyone who has life,
and has committed himself to me in faith,
    shall not die for ever.

As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives
and that at the last he will stand upon the earth.
    After my awaking, he will raise me up;
and in my body I shall see God.
I myself shall see, and my eyes behold him
who is my friend and not a stranger.

For none of us has life in himself,
and none becomes his own master when he dies.
For if we have life, we are alive in the Lord,
and if we die, we die in the Lord.
So, then, whether we live or die,
    we are the Lord's possession.

    Happy from now on
are those who die in the Lord!
So it is, says the Spirit,
for they rest from their labors.

In the Constellation of Thy Love

3 Ford grandkids read the Prayers of the People....one a boy about 8 or so...

In peace, let us pray to the Lord.

Almighty God, who hast knit together thine elect in one communion and fellowship, in the mystical body of thy Son Christ our Lord: Grant, we beseech thee, to thy whole Church in paradise and on earth, thy light and thy peace. Amen.

Grant that all who have been baptized into Christ's death and resurrection may die to sin and rise to newness of life, and that through the grave and gate of death we may pass with him to our joyful resurrection. Amen.

Grant to us who are still in our pilgrimage, and who walk as yet by faith, that thy Holy Spirit may lead us in holiness and righteousness all our days. Amen.

Grant to thy faithful people pardon and peace, that we may be cleansed from all our sins, and serve thee with a quiet mind. Amen.

Grant to all who mourn a sure confidence in thy fatherly care, that, casting all their grief on thee, they may know the constellation [consolation] of thy love. Amen.

Give courage and faith to those who are bereaved, that they may have strength to meet the days ahead in the comfort of a reasonable and holy hope, in the joyful expectation of eternal life with those they love. Amen..

Help us, we pray, in the midst of things we cannot understand, to believe and trust in the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, and the resurrection to life everlasting. Amen.

Grant us grace to entrust N. to thy never-failing love; receive him into the arms of thy mercy, and remember him according to the favor which thou bearest unto thy people. Amen.

Grant that, increasing in knowledge and love of thee, he may go from strength to strength in the life of perfect service in thy heavenly kingdom. Amen.

Grant us, with all who have died in the hope of the resurrection, to have our consummation and bliss in thy eternal and everlasting glory, and, with [blessed N. and] all thy saints, to receive the crown of life which thou dost promise to all who share in the victory of thy Son Jesus Christ; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

[...]American churches do not pay taxes. In exchange for tax-exempt status, they agree to abstain from certain kinds of political advocacy. Yet in recent years, as more churches have become entangled in political campaigning, reported violations of these regulations have increased—especially the one that bans endorsing or opposing individual candidates. Many churches have learned to skirt the regulations, to observe the letter of these laws while at the same time breaking them in spirit, by quietly sanctioning their breach. One result, for many clergy, is a subtle leaching of integrity...
