29021. wabbit - 12/25/2017 4:22:13 PM Ms. No, definitely time to get out of Dodge, I hope the house paperwork is moving quickly.
Merry Christmas to all! 29022. arkymalarky - 12/25/2017 5:51:42 PM Merry Christmas dear mote buds!
29023. wabbit - 12/31/2017 3:47:17 PM Happy New Year! 29024. Ms. No - 12/31/2017 7:36:55 PM Time to kick 2017 to the curb! I've been in a funk the last month and can't seem to get out of it. Winter Break isn't always a good thing for me since it's cold out and I can just hibernate at home. This year I've been packing and trying to sort through stuff and clean up after the break-in, but I've spent way more time on the couch reading than I probably should have with all the stuff I need to get done.
Closing on the house this Friday -- was hoping it would happen sooner since I'm still off this week, but moving MLK weekend won't be too bad.
Looking forward to the next semester when my student teachers take over most of the planning and grading for my English classes.
Headed to a party tonight, but wishing I was going to the more low-key gathering that another friend is having. I already committed to the large gathering though, and I'm bringing food, so I will just be grateful I'm so blessed with friends.
Grr! I just want to be in my house and painting and fixing up and arranging. My mother is coming out at the end of the month for about 10 days to help out, and my brother and his wife and the baby will be up for the last long weekend of that, so I'm really excited. Bro is going to install some electrical outlets and maybe help me upgrade the sink in the master bath. I'm just thrilled that I have someplace for them all to stay now!
Okay, I'm rambling because I'm avoiding chores. Hope you all have a wonderful new year and safe celebrations wherever you happen to be tonight!
29025. Ms. No - 1/8/2018 6:42:10 PM It's official! I'm a bonafide homeowner! 29026. arkymalarky - 1/9/2018 4:11:58 AM Yay!!!!! 29027. wabbit - 1/10/2018 12:14:44 AM Congrats Ms. No!!! 29028. Ms. No - 1/18/2018 6:22:51 PM Still have about 8 hours of shlepping small stuff from the old place and then cleaning, but I've been sleeping in my house since Saturday night.
Sleeping really, really soundly. So soundly that I've been late getting out of bed every school day this week. Gonna need to make an adjustment there. Plus, the house isn't huge, but it's enough bigger than my apartment that I have more places to go in the morning when I'm getting ready. I haven't moved into the master bedroom yet, so my routine will take some more adjusting.
Started painting the living room this past weekend. Once I get it finished, I'll go pick up the framing job I put in back in November. They've been kind enough to hold onto it for me so I didn't have to move it twice and lean stuff against a wall for weeks. I'm really excited about it!
Mom's coming in next Friday for about ten days to help sort and decorate and throw out. All of these things that I've been accumulating and saving for "someday when I have a house of my own" now get their chance. If I unpack them and find they don't go in the house, then they go out to the curb. Or Goodwill, or whatever.
I've done a pretty good job of not bringing anything into the house that I'm not immediately using. I did have to bring kitchen stuff in, but those boxes are sitting in the breakfast area waiting to be unpacked. I've got kitchen stuff that I can toss, for sure. I don't want to just put it on the shelves and then see it in the back of a cupboard someday three years from now covered in dust.
So, the garage is holding almost all my boxes. A lot of them are books that I can donate to the SPCA store. Some of them I can bring to my classroom, but most of them it's time to just let go of.
I eventually want to finish out the garage enough to have a workshop space. Right now I'll be setting up the 3rd bedroom to do leather in, but it will be serving a dual purpose as an office, too. Hell, it may stay the leather room. I haven't tried to work in there yet, and I may find that it's too closed-in feeling for me to write or do school planning in.
So many things to do and here I am still having to show up to work every day. :-) Next week is finals, and we have shortened days, so I'll have more time to play in my house, but that's pretty much all I want to do right now. 29029. arkymalarky - 1/18/2018 8:37:36 PM That sounds so fun and exciting! If you lived here you would have had the last four days to work on your house because of an inch of snow which shuts the world down in Arkansas 29030. Ms. No - 1/18/2018 9:41:24 PM Aw, man! I wish! 29031. thoughtful - 1/19/2018 5:25:29 PM Just stopped by to wish y'all happy new year and glad to see there are a few who are still hearty and hale.
I'm doing fine and getting ready to march tomorrow...still have my pink hat from DC last year. Hope it's the last time I'll need it!! 29032. arkymalarky - 1/19/2018 6:14:05 PM Yay Thoughtful! You go!
Looked for something happening here and didn't see anything, but I've been working on trying to get something going with organizing with voter registration and gotv in my area. There is pretty much zero inf9rastructure of the democratic party in Arkansas now. Back in the good old days it was Bumpers, Clinton, Pryor, and we were really looking good.
So glad you're doing well and I hope you have a good year personally as well as politically! I hope we all have one politically. 29033. Ms. No - 1/19/2018 6:42:43 PM Good to see you, Thoughtful!
I'll be marching tomorrow with more than 20 of my students. We'll probably get more than that -- not everyone bothers to sign up officially, but as small as we are, this is 10% of our entire student body.
I've got friends who will also be marching. Not sure how I'm going to juggle my association with both groups. Hard to remember to be student-appropriate when I'm hanging with my grown-up friends. I'll chalk it up to "it's good for students to see their teachers as real people with lives outside of the classroom." 29034. arkymalarky - 1/20/2018 6:08:44 PM That reminds me that probably 20 years ago at least a student grabbed me by the arm in the hall and pulled me into the office and whispered in dismay,"I saw you in a liquor store!" 29035. thoughtful - 1/21/2018 2:57:46 AM I marched today in NYC with about a couple hundred thousand other people...what a wonderful time, though I sincerely hope I won't have to march next year! 29036. Ms. No - 1/21/2018 4:34:08 AM There is something so beautiful about that kind of solidarity. I love that we march, but I hate that we have to. 29037. iiibbb - 2/8/2018 12:25:17 AM hello 29038. Ms. No - 2/9/2018 6:55:37 AM Good to see you, i3b3! How're things? 29039. Ms. No - 2/10/2018 7:21:03 PM Chimney cleaning and repair this morning - may burn a fire tonight just because I can!
Running my first load of laundry and set to cut the grass for the first time this afternoon.
I'm sure I'll need to be reminded of how excited I am about all of these things in a couple of months, but right now I'm having fun doing chores. 29040. iiibbb - 2/14/2018 5:31:23 AM Apart from the country... they're fine mostly.
