Bob and I will be out in our yard with blankets. It's crystal clear here, but cold. It's supposed to get to 26F tonight.

alistairConnor, yes, they call it SPAM in Hawaii. It is even on the McDonald's menu there.

South Pacific Army Meat. It's an acronym.

I hope the skies clear for you.

3968. wonkers2, you think SPAM is delicious?
Ick. I bought some for my kid, because he wanted to see what is was, and even he wouldn't eat it.
It must be an aquired taste.

3974. wonkers2 - 3/4/2007 12:52:19 AM

Perhaps. I acquired as a kid during WWII. Haven't had any for a while because my spouse is down on processed foods. The delicacy suffers from widespread prejudice such as the scorn heaped on it by Judith and, of course, is the source of the name for unwanted email.

3975. Ulgine Barrows - 3/4/2007 1:04:38 AM

well...life is short.
I think you should get yourself some SPAM meat, to remind you of childhood.
To heck with that Judith! We are talking childhood memories, here!

Let me misspel something here, so Judith will show up, and correct it all.

Spam is a staple in Hawaii and I endure it because my husband is Hawaiian...it's not like having it a few times a year is going to kill us.

To tell you the truth, I would eat anything disgusting my husband liked because he is a gem of a man in my eyes and while that doesn't include menudo (Mexican tripe soup), it covers anything in Hawaii they love, like poi and sei moi (salted, dried plums).

He hates Mexican food but he will take me to a Mexican restaurant because he knows I like it...so it is little enough sacrifice for me to eat Spam twice a year.

Don't be snide...you know I only correct myself.

Great picture!

Everything's in bloom here.

Well after a very mild winter, it snowed from Monday to Saturday.

Today it started to melt.

Crocuses are rising in Detroit.

Daffodils already bloomed and faded away in Texas.

Good cat news!

The Son of Thunder* (CFA Balinese aka Sonny nee Oct 1988!) does not have kidney disease. He'd lost weight; was drinking and peeing rivers, and was dehydrated. Even the doc thought that blood tests would only be a formality confirming a k/d diagnosis

In fact his kidneys are in fine shape Blood tests indicate all functions normal except for thryroid which is manageable with daily pills (errrrrr). Xrays were clear as well.

Indeed he was cover breed in the latest issue of Cat Fancy Magazine Centerfold too!!

*mark 3:16-17
So he appointed the twelve: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter); James son of Zebedee and John the brother of James (to whom he gave the name Boanerges, that is, Sons of Thunder);

mustard on the Marin Hills and in Sonoma, Napa...leaves on the vines, and next month come the wildflowers starring the California poppy

3986. jexster - 3/31/2007 9:27:47 PM

Now why didn't I think of that...

Went to pick up thyroid pills at Pets Unlimited - the Pacific Heights(!) Pet Hospital.

I dreaded twice daily pills. My hands are too big to force the pill past the cat's tongue...not to worry..

Along with the six page handout on hyperthyroidism in cats, PILL POCKETS (chicken flavored) and a PILL GUN (insert pill N2 soft rubber holder, open mouth, insert over tongue and push plunger)

Easy

I'm so proud of myself...I just finished the art work on the Garden Club Yard Of The Month sign for April...two Art Nouveau tulips on either side of the signage. I made a template of the tulip and flipped it. Hand colored. Each bloom is a magenta/hot pink/pale pink mixture with dark green/hot green/blue green stems and leaves.

The idea is to do a generic sign and add each month name on each sign and have art work that fits each month...then, I have to schlepp it to the copy store and get it laminated. Thankfully, I don't have to choose the yard each time...BTDT. These people get testy if they don't get chosen which is why I volunteered to do the signs instead.

3988. arkymalarky - 4/4/2007 1:52:43 AM

You need to post a picture--maybe of the yard that wins with the sign on it!

3989. thoughtful - 4/4/2007 2:16:53 PM

That's very interesting jex...i had a cat who was hyperthyroid and so did my friend. I wonder what's causing it? The way we found out was the cat had a detached retina due to high blood pressure. Blood test revealed the cause. Pills were only temporary as eventually her thyroid returned to normal.

Of course I have graves' disease and have been dealing with hyperthyroidism for over 25 years.

I just made something that I hope works the way I want it to...making my son's birthday pot roast tomorrow and I got everything today at the store. Forgot to get anything to make the salad "special" and refuse to return to that madhouse.

I have butter lettuce and what I decided to do was take a can of sliced carrots and boil them with a bit of vinegar and dill weed. Then drain and chill over night...or should I leave the juice and chill? Anyhow, I'll lay out the butter lettuce on a salad plate and and plop the dilled carrots in the middle and dress with some olive oil and vinegar.

What think y'all? I thought it would be very colorful and tasty...maybe halve a few grape tomatoes, too, and lay them out artfully with the carrots.
