I remember John Rarick. Ran for governor if I recall. From West Feliciana Parish. Klan it was rumored. Favorite backdrop - Stars and Bars
As I reported last week, in 1964, Rep. John Bell Williams (D) of Mississippi and Rep. Albert Watson (D) of South Carolina both endorsed Barry Goldwater's presidential campaign, and both were punished by losing their seniority. Four years later, Rep. John Rarick (D) of Louisiana endorsed George Wallace's presidential campaign, and the party stripped him of his committee seniority, too.
Now, Lieberman endorsed McCain, spoke at the GOP convention, helped down-ballot Republicans, and smeared the Democratic nominee at every available opportunity, and the caucus decided to let him off the hook entirely. 40283. jexster - 11/19/2008 3:25:04 AM Well I don't have early onset Alzheimer's...

Looks the part don't he!
40284. arkymalarky - 11/19/2008 3:41:18 AM If they dumped Lieberman from the chairmanship they'd lose the only weapon they have to encourage him to toe the line in a crucial session. They also jeopardize bipartisanship led by McCain and others that would diminish the legitimacy of Obama's goals. Priority one is getting his agenda through. He's not going to let disgust with Lieberman put it at risk or make it look like a Liberal steamroll when things get passed.
I'd love to see Liebeeman thrown out, but I understand why it didn't happen. 40285. robertjayb - 11/19/2008 4:02:15 AM Mexicans gone wild: Cheney, Gonzales indicted...
McALLEN — A South Texas grand jury has indicted Vice President Dick Cheney and former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on state charges related to the alleged abuse of prisoners in Willacy County's federal detention centers.
The indictment, which had not yet been signed by the presiding judge, was one of seven released Tuesday in a county that has been a source of bizarre legal and political battles in recent years. Another of the indictments named a state senator on charges of profiting from his position.

Big D Mornin News:
The dwindling ranks of GOP senators chose Texan John Cornyn this morning to lead their campaign effort for the next two years.
"The right policies and the right message are very, very important, but they don’t count for much unless you can win elections," Mr. Cornyn said after Senate Republicans elected leaders for the new Congress. "Now we’ll get to work."
40292. arkymalarky - 11/19/2008 5:12:17 AM Con'd has yet to come in and say how he voted. He could easily be one of that 20% of Republicans who went for Obama. 40293. jexster - 11/19/2008 5:31:38 AM and JoeMentum won't sleep nights afeared of what the Dems will do do him!

40294. jexster - 11/19/2008 5:38:42 AM Nov. 19, 2008 | WASHINGTON -- If you ever happen to find yourself accused of serious wrongdoing -- publicly betraying your friends and colleagues, say, or maybe something like a federal felony conviction -- forget about a jury of your peers. What you're really looking for is a jury composed entirely of members of the United States Senate.
House of Marmots: A Jury of His Peers 40295. jexster - 11/19/2008 5:42:54 AM Exactly why Lieberman felt he had any leverage -- after picking sides against his own party, and picking the losing side, to boot -- was unclear. Yes, he could have been a nuisance to Reid if he felt scorned, and Republicans were reaching out to bring him into their caucus if the opportunity presented itself. But a nuisance is about all he could have been. (On the other hand, leaving him with a committee gavel means he's got subpoena power to investigate Obama's administration, though the fact that he never used that power to investigate George W. Bush's should mean he'll be similarly easy on Obama.)
How much "leverage" do they think they have now? 40296. TheWizardOfWhimsy - 11/19/2008 3:28:04 PM Sit back and savor the schadenfreude . . .

Hear it now: Cornyn 2012. We better pray that happens because this guy is almost as clueless as Bush.
