My gray fox, taken about half an hour ago. She loves pizza crust.

How cool! S/he has a beautiful coat!

I just got the BEST houise cleaning for my birthday by a woman we already knew who did a FANTASTIC deep clean. I'm so excited.

4565. wabbit - 8/4/2009 12:24:43 AM

Now that's a birthday present! Happy Happy!!

4566. arkymalarky - 8/4/2009 1:19:14 AM

Thanks! It's really been a great one.

Did she find anything I'd left behind? ;-)

4568. judithathome - 8/4/2009 5:49:16 PM

Speaking of which, I left my PJs on the rod on the second door in the upstairs bathroom. Just hold on to them, if you don't mind, and that will be fewer things to pack on the next trip. ;-)

And we have Keoni's Nike golf hat! And Spook evidently didn't leave anything--unprecedented for y'all to leave TWO things here and Spook get everything!

Judith, I was going to email but decided to post--we bought two nice little pot roasts and a bottle of allegra and I marianated them and used the left over cut veggies and made a batch of that tea and it was WONDERFUL. I ate the rest of those watermelon cookies for dessert!

4571. judithathome - 8/7/2009 7:27:41 PM

Oh wow...that sounds really good. The best thing about pot roast: potatoes!

He hasn't even missed his golf hat...ha!

See, it's all his fault for going upstairs and bringing everything (ha!) down before I had a chance to pack. And triple check...

A handy hint for anyone who never thought of it. Twice this week, I was in groceries selling nice round roasts cheaper than hamburger, so I gave a roast to the butcher and had him grind it up for me. No charge, leaner, fresher, and cheaper. The second one I had half ground up and kept half as a roast beef for Sunday.

My gray fox turned out to have a mate, and they seem to have been successful at raising a pup.

I started to suspect that I had a pair when one came at 7pm and another appeared at 8pm. About three weeks ago, the pair started coming together on occasion. Tonight, the 7pm fox appeared, and about five minutes later, the mate arrived with another, slightly smaller, fox trailing behind!

No big deal for most folks, but gray foxes aren't seen often around here. Next I'll try to get them used to eating dog food for the winter.

Oh, how neat! Are baby foxes called kits? I seem to recall that from long ago...

4575. wabbit - 9/2/2009 7:42:15 PM

Yes, kits (or pups). This one is a good size, almost as big as the parents, but it's the first visit to my little feeding ground (far as I know).

I saw something really nice on my way home from work the other day. Someone was out walking his old dog. The dog may have been a Boxer, or a Pit Bull, something along those lines, but was obviously very old — he had a grizzled muzzle and was overweight, swaying and shuffling along slowly, taking small old dog steps. He was wearing a clean bandanna and seemed to be smiling and happy, just out for a small walk and getting a bit of fresh air.

The impressive thing was the 20-something young man walking with him. He wasn't in a hurry, content to walk very slowly with the dog, and he was pulling a wagon. The wagon wasn't a metal wagon, but a nice wagon with good wheels and wooden slat sides that came up a good ten inches. Clearly he brought the wagon along knowing that at some point the old dog would need a ride home. But how wonderful, to see that young man barely walking, allowing the old dog to set the pace, waiting patiently for him to be tired enough to need a ride.

Thanks. I love the picture.

4578. robertjayb - 9/14/2009 8:54:22 PM

And I love this song...

4579. wabbit - 9/20/2009 12:27:53 AM

I haven't heard that song in years, thanks! For whatever reason, the YouTube video has been taken down, but it's available on a MySpace page that is linked from Hall's website: Old Dogs, Children And Watermelon Wine

4580. judithathome - 9/20/2009 3:14:51 AM

I am so pissed off today.....

4581. judithathome - 9/20/2009 3:25:22 AM

I am FURIOUS with my local phone company...my home phone has been out for 8 days...my DSL (with the same company) has been flickering on and off all week...when it DOES come on, it usually flips off in the middle of a long something I'm trying to post and I lose everything.

I'm going to call and tell them if they don't get someone out here TODAY, I will not be paying my bill any time soon. Or better yet, changing to another company.

I've been with the same company for 15 frickin' years.
