I haven't heard that song in years, thanks! For whatever reason, the YouTube video has been taken down, but it's available on a MySpace page that is linked from Hall's website: Old Dogs, Children And Watermelon Wine

I am so pissed off today.....

4581. judithathome - 9/20/2009 3:25:22 AM

I am FURIOUS with my local phone company...my home phone has been out for 8 days...my DSL (with the same company) has been flickering on and off all week...when it DOES come on, it usually flips off in the middle of a long something I'm trying to post and I lose everything.

I'm going to call and tell them if they don't get someone out here TODAY, I will not be paying my bill any time soon. Or better yet, changing to another company.

I've been with the same company for 15 frickin' years.

Anyhow, now I'm upset because the bastards came out (after EIGHT DAYS) and couldn't fix it...while we were on our way to a wedding, for which I bought a very expensive gift and for which we drove 37 miles one way to get to and no one was there. Allegedly, Hector, the phone repairman, will be back in the morning. Ha!

The reason we were attending this wedding was because my son was good friends with the bride....she was a patient at the same time he was (same neurologist) and they were BFFs because he would drive over to Dallas to sit with her during her recovery every Sunday for 4 months.

She's a lovely girl for whom I have the utmost admiration because she has recovered from a serious brain injury and my son loved her like a little sister...now, because of whatever, I am worried that she may have had some sort of relapse or something...anyhow, we arrived at the venue...a really beautiful private ranch in the middle of nowhere, and no one was there....I'm so concerned that something happened to her and I have no way to get in touch because we only write to each other...not even on email but through snail mail!

I Wonder How Many People Know About This:

A 36 year old female had an accident several weeks ago and totaled her car.

A resident of Kilgore , Texas she was traveling between Gladewater & Kilgore. It was raining, though not excessively, when her car suddenly began to hydro-plane and literally flew through the air. She was not seriously injured but very stunned at the sudden occurrence!

When she explained to the highway patrolman what had happened he told her something that every driver should know:

NEVER DRIVE IN THE RAIN WITH YOUR CRUISE CONTROL ON!!!
She thought she was being cautious by setting the cruise control and maintaining a safe consistent speed in the rain.

But the highway patrolman told her that if the cruise control is on when your car begins to hydro-plane and your tires lose contact with the pavement, your car will accelerate to a higher rate of speed making you take off like an airplane.

She told the patrolman that was exactly what had occurred.

The patrolman said this warning should be listed on the driver's seat sun-visor:

NEVER USE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE PAVEMENT IS WET OR ICY, along with the airbag warning.

We tell our teenagers to set the cruise control and drive a safe speed, but we don't tell them to use the cruise control only when the pavement is dry.

The only person the accident victim found, who knew this (besides the patrolman), was a man who had had a similar accident, totaled his car and sustained severe injuries.

NOTE: Some vehicles (like the Toyota Sienna Limited XLE) will not allow you to set the cruise control when the windshield wipers are on.

If you send this to 15 people and only one of them doesn't know about this, then it was all worth it. You might have saved a life.

I did know this, but thanks for letting others know.

I didn't. Thanks Wiz!

Just finished front landscaping...next will be to extend the stonewall across the front to the driveway.

4587. thoughtful - 7/2/2010 1:42:36 PM

Back of the house is done except for landscaping...

5kw of solar panels on the roof mean we have yet to pay for electricity on the house despite having the geothermal heat on in the winter and a/c on in the summer. Last month's electric bill was $15.97.

The little bubbles on the roof are the solar tubes providing light to the interior spaces...dressing room and laundry room.

Because the deck is up and the pond and the view is down, we decided to use tempered glass instead of railing and we are so glad we did.

Little less clear from the shot is that the deck is half covered like a porch while half is open.

4590. thoughtful - 7/2/2010 1:52:14 PM

Inside, this is looking from the deck into the kitchen/breakfast nook/family room area.

If you look at the ceiling line, you will see the arch shape which matches the shape in the island and also the shape in the flooring. Throughout the house, we sprinkled the "broken arch" theme...on the doors, on the wood stove, over the cooktop, etc.

Island includes a hammered copper prep sink. Cook top is induction and is able to boil water in 90 sec or less.

The sofa is facing the wall where the big screen tv will go.

4591. thoughtful - 7/2/2010 1:54:10 PM

One of the things on the list is to make a custom table to fit the breakfast nook...clearly the card table doesn't cut it!

We were fortunate to have a master carpenter do all the cherry woodwork in the library and the dining room. We had so much fun working together to design the mantle and it was great fun seeing it come to fruition...I also had fun shopping for the onlays.

The painting over the fireplace is of the old house we had to tear down to build this one.

The "marble" column is really a composite that I faux finished to match the marble in the fireplace surround.

This is standing in the library looking across into the dining room with it's barrel-vaulted ceiling matching the arch in the window...all 4 columns took me over a month of weekends to complete, including leafing the "brass" rings on top and bottom.

Note to the flooring looks like rosewood, but is actually vinyl...the square outline in the floor is also vinyl but looks like patterned antique brass.

4594. thoughtful - 7/2/2010 2:04:25 PM

Broken arch repeated in the bump out in my bedroom...I plan on putting a chaise lounge in that spot to enjoy the view from the window. Note crystal chandelier lit by low voltage lighting...it's really stunning at night.

Lower level guest room is probably the best room in the house.
It has it's own private bath with a separate shower stall and an air jet tub.

4596. thoughtful - 7/2/2010 2:11:50 PM

Lower level exercise room has sliders that will lead to a patio...the next landscaping project.

Note the tray ceiling....the center is even higher, the lower part is at 9'...done to hide the duct work which is hidden in part of the tray. This is part of the energy efficiency...to have all the duct work for the house running through conditioned space.

This lower level has also maintained a temperature of about 63 throughout the winter without any heat on.
With all the southern-facing glass, on both the upper and lower levels we have gained 4 degrees in temperature on sunny winter days.

The door leads to my craft room...

4597. thoughtful - 7/2/2010 2:12:41 PM

located in the southwest corner of the house...it often looks like the lights are on even when they aren't.

4598. wabbit - 7/2/2010 2:38:12 PM

t'ful, it's *gorgeous*!!! What a beautiful home - the location was always wonderful and now the house complements the land. All the details, just beautiful. I can't wait to see your calendar photos!
