This is standing in the library looking across into the dining room with it's barrel-vaulted ceiling matching the arch in the window...all 4 columns took me over a month of weekends to complete, including leafing the "brass" rings on top and bottom.
Note to the flooring looks like rosewood, but is actually vinyl...the square outline in the floor is also vinyl but looks like patterned antique brass. 4594. thoughtful - 7/2/2010 2:04:25 PM
Broken arch repeated in the bump out in my bedroom...I plan on putting a chaise lounge in that spot to enjoy the view from the window. Note crystal chandelier lit by low voltage lighting...it's really stunning at night. 4595. thoughtful - 7/2/2010 2:08:35 PM Lower level guest room is probably the best room in the house.
It has it's own private bath with a separate shower stall and an air jet tub.

Lower level exercise room has sliders that will lead to a patio...the next landscaping project.
Note the tray ceiling....the center is even higher, the lower part is at 9'...done to hide the duct work which is hidden in part of the tray. This is part of the energy efficiency...to have all the duct work for the house running through conditioned space.
This lower level has also maintained a temperature of about 63 throughout the winter without any heat on.
With all the southern-facing glass, on both the upper and lower levels we have gained 4 degrees in temperature on sunny winter days.
The door leads to my craft room... 4597. thoughtful - 7/2/2010 2:12:41 PM
located in the southwest corner of the house...it often looks like the lights are on even when they aren't. 4598. wabbit - 7/2/2010 2:38:12 PM t'ful, it's *gorgeous*!!! What a beautiful home - the location was always wonderful and now the house complements the land. All the details, just beautiful. I can't wait to see your calendar photos! 4599. thoughtful - 7/2/2010 4:09:25 PM Thanks wabbit...i wish concerned were around to see it...it was based on his recommendation that we went with the econar geothermal system and we are very glad we did.
4600. arkymalarky - 7/2/2010 9:10:51 PM Oh my! What an absolutely gorgeous place, inside and out! The details, personal touches, flow, and the amazing effiiciency are all just jaw-dropping! You're going to have such a wonderful time retiring with such a place to enjoy! 4601. alistairConnor - 7/4/2010 9:31:12 AM It's been a privilege to follow this project with you, Thoughtful. The outcome is breathtaking. 4602. thoughtful - 7/4/2010 3:33:56 PM Thanks guys...now all we have to do is move in!
This week i'm off from work and it's going to be awful weather...90s+ with high humidity...
As the new house has a/c and the old one doesn't i suspect we'll finally start sleeping there....gradually getting closer to a full move in. 4603. alistairConnor - 7/4/2010 6:30:59 PM We are suffering through a Euro-heatwave in town, as we have moved out of my house definitively. Settlement date is actually mid august, but the new owners are in a hurry to move in.
I am sad. 4604. judithathome - 7/6/2010 4:54:03 PM Thoughtful, words fail me...stunning stunning job on the house!! Will you adopt me?
I must say, the job you did on the marble columns is superb...you're a true "fauxist!" 4605. Jenerator - 7/7/2010 3:49:57 AM That is my ultimate dream house.
4606. thoughtful - 7/7/2010 8:09:07 PM Thank you ladies...it's been a genuine labor of love as it's taken us so bloody long and cost us way too much.
But I'm enjoying the process tremendously...especially what's next which is making drapes and decorating the place.
Now that I'm leaving work, I'll have time to get it all done.
4607. thoughtful - 7/12/2010 9:21:19 PM I forgot to post a pic of my wild-assed powder room...
...the colors for which were inspired by this print:
I'm still looking to get the print framed, but they're crazy prices. One guy wanted $700 for a frame...heck I got a custom made 4' high marble pedestal for my statue for $600 bucks....are they crazy??? 4608. thoughtful - 7/12/2010 9:25:13 PM
Don't remember if i posted this before or not...this is the sculpture for my marble pedestal, only I have the little one...not this life-sized one! 4609. judithathome - 7/13/2010 5:34:15 PM Wow...great balance in that bronze! Who is the artist?
Your bathroom is Hermes Orange...my friend Malibu is doing his new guest bathroom in that color! 4610. thoughtful - 7/13/2010 8:12:15 PM Andrew DeVries 4611. thoughtful - 7/13/2010 10:55:01 PM His website is here: http://www.andrewdevries.com/
He's done some very cool things with dancers and defying gravity and physics.
This one is pretty neat:
But I especially like this one...
He said he was watching this dancer dance who was so in to it that he literally hit the wall. In his sculpture though, he allows the dancer to actually penetrate it. 4612. thoughtful - 7/19/2010 1:56:46 PM Now we have a new issue at the new house....i think we have a flying squirrel in the attic and I need to get it out. And I need to have someone come to plug the vermin entrances....guys did not do a good job of flashing around some architectural detail in the roof edge and left spaces where I knew vermin would get in and now they have. The problem is getting someone in to do the high work as it's probably 30' in the air up there.
