Ms. No - 10/27/2015 2:59:32 AM The whole Ben Carson thing has been tough on my students because they read his book Gifted Hands in their freshman year, and they all get inspired by him and think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread.
And if all he wanted to do/be was an example of how a kid on the bottom can succeed, that would be fine.
I'm always suspicious of these kinds of inspirational stories. I mean, everyone knows that they are the exception rather than the rule, but the implication is that anyone can do it if they just want to try hard enough. The flip side of that is that anyone who doesn't make it is just plain lazy....which means 99% of poor people.
Yeah, I know poor people with three jobs.
