President Donald Trump.

There's a reason I think progressives are fuckwits.

46105. arkymalarky - 12/22/2015 8:20:09 PM

Salon is just blowing smoke. It's like PUMA in '08. Republicans are seeding that thought hoping it'll take root, and it isn't going to.

46106. iiibbb - 12/22/2015 8:33:45 PM

Except I know real people who are saying this.

And I'm not sure Nader is fresh enough in their minds.

46107. arkymalarky - 12/22/2015 9:56:55 PM

I think trump is more likely to run as an independent than Bernie Sanders is.

46108. arkymalarky - 12/22/2015 9:58:13 PM

Stan's going to go for bernie in the primary, but when it comes to the general unless somebody reasonable moves to the forefront I can't imagine. Of course I never take anything for granted. Not after 8 years of Bush. Or 8 years of Reagan for that matter.

46109. iiibbb - 12/22/2015 10:20:08 PM

The only thing that makes Hilary avoiders irrelevant is Trump running as an independent.

Now taking suggestions for places to move outside the US if Trump or Cruz is elected....we've thought about becoming permanent "cruisers" but I hate that idea because of too many exposures to disease....on month two of severe cough and cold....and I got it at ONE party. So I want some obscure place where I don't have to mingle and where Keoni can still play golf.

Very serious...so far, we've thought about an ex-pat community on the coast of Mexico...

46111. arkymalarky - 12/23/2015 9:13:13 PM

I would like South Korea personally. Talk to our girls who live there. Canada's great now they've gotten rid of their right wing and Spook's son just got his citizenship there. Considering the coast and global warming, probably wouldn't be too bad Temp wise

46112. arkymalarky - 12/23/2015 9:15:03 PM

Stan and I are just Going to stay put where it's easy to ignore. Both here and in Colorado.

46113. judithathome - 12/23/2015 9:49:01 PM

Korea is nice to visit but I wouldn't want to live there...been there, done that with the Orient.

46114. ms. no - 12/24/2015 1:09:59 AM

My sil's parents are retiring to Panama.

I'd come visit!

46115. arkymalarky - 12/24/2015 1:40:33 AM

Don't think I can go south of here. I can barely breathe here. We know people in SK and Canada who would love to help us visit or live.

46116. winstonsmith - 12/27/2015 12:30:58 AM

Is it possible that the rise of ISIS is an unintended consequence of Nader's 3rd party run in 2000? Thousands of Nader votes in Florida would have likely gone to Gore and it seems like Gore would not have gone taken us to war in Iraq. Without the Iraq war, the Middle East might be very different.

46117. judithathome - 12/27/2015 1:35:07 AM

AMEN to THAT!

46118. arkymalarky - 12/27/2015 1:48:33 AM

And there's always the question of whether 911 would have happened with gore. Bill Clinton supposedly stopped several planned attacks. Most famously the LAX millennial.

46119. arkymalarky - 1/3/2016 2:44:49 AM

Dale bumpers died. Best politician in Arkansas since I've been here.

46120. arkymalarky - 1/3/2016 2:45:11 AM

I moved here in 1971.

One of the most common gun rights advocates positions is that making laws about capacity, class of weapons, or around misnomers such as "assault weapon" (usually based on cosmetic features), "cop killer" (basically any hunting round), "armor piercing" (again, many hunting rounds) etc. won't change anything...

"Enforce the existing laws"

Now Obama sets out to improve the enforcement of existing laws and many are all bent out of shape. Speaking as someone who believes in gun rights, the right to protect yourself, and who has never liked the common and pointless proposals made by "common sense" gun control advocates who seem to know little about the subject... Gun rights people should embrace Obama's move. They should have led the charge on this move. Totally misplayed because they either hate Obama or have become so recalcitrant that they can't think logically.

Obama's move is easy.

46122. arkymalarky - 1/5/2016 7:55:14 PM

They're literally beginning to look like they Support arming terrorists and killers. It's hard to see another way to look at the way they approach gun regulation

46123. iiibbb - 1/5/2016 8:02:07 PM

Lead, follow, or get out of the way.

The problem with gun rights leaders not sensing the winds of change and leading the charge for moves like this, they lose the ability to influence the outcome.

If they'd proposed this stuff after Sandy Hook they could've looked like the were doing something constructive.

Because I still believe most gun control measures aren't going to stop a person intent on causing mayhem... however, I also know that perception is reality. Better to expand background checks that pursue the cosmetic fluff that's been at the forefront of gun control proposals in the past.
