The problem with gun rights leaders not sensing the winds of change and leading the charge for moves like this, they lose the ability to influence the outcome.
If they'd proposed this stuff after Sandy Hook they could've looked like the were doing something constructive.
Because I still believe most gun control measures aren't going to stop a person intent on causing mayhem... however, I also know that perception is reality. Because they're hoping to win, and if they do, they are realizing that they can't just stomp their feet and say "No!" anymore. They'll have to actually DO something or they'll lose their seats.
