More and more I think Sanders could be an asset to Clinton's campaign in the general election. He brings a significant amount of enthusiasm and is raising huge amounts of money. I hope she is considering him for VP.

I realize it woul be unorthodox to choose someone on the far left but this is not a normal year. If the GOP nominee is Trump, I think she could get away with it.

BTW, I know this is off topic but where is The Mote hosted? It seems to be having trouble.

NZ. Alistair is in France, and it seems like a server issue, so....

Hillary gave a great speech today in Madison, WI...hard to believe someone like Trump/Cruz is getting most of the air time when she can deliver such a great sppech and get one-third the air time those two receive....

46328. judithathome - 3/29/2016 12:45:28 AM

crap...SPEECH.

So, Trump decides women who have abortions need to be "punished"...

Welcome to 1984.

"The tyranny is epitomised by Big Brother, the Party leader who enjoys an intense cult of personality but who may not even exist. The Party "seeks power entirely for its own sake. It is not interested in the good of others; it is interested solely in power."

I'm not convinced that Trump doesn't want to be president... he just wants to say he could've been president.

46331. iiibbb - 3/31/2016 4:44:01 PM

Whatever happened to Jexter? I don't miss him exactly... but this place is slow with only 5-10 of us... of course I really like the 5-9 of you that are here.

46332. arkymalarky - 3/31/2016 6:55:58 PM

Jex just wouldn't comply with any requests whatsoever, and finally got the boot. When he did that made some people mad and They left. It's really time consuming, but also instructive and interesting to look back in the archives and see how he became what we were and morphed into what we are.

46333. arkymalarky - 3/31/2016 6:56:51 PM

Haha! and with that post the April fools banners! Yeah!!

46334. iiibbb - 3/31/2016 7:22:57 PM

Jex's posting style was unsuitable with this streaming format. I don't miss his 20-post runs, even if he was generally likeable; it made it too difficult to follow the conversations.

46335. winstonsmith - 3/31/2016 8:35:36 PM

I recall that Jex was smart and entertaining but was pretty passionate about his beliefs and would cross the line berating people at times.

My god I hate "true" Progressives.......... holy fuck...... among the thinnest skin.... the most tin ears.... the poorest reading comprehension.... the worst at math.... the hypocrisy....

46337. iiibbb - 3/31/2016 8:38:02 PM

Only one punishment for any crime.... annihilation... there is no conversation with them... no exploration... they are intellectually barren.

46338. winstonsmith - 3/31/2016 8:42:06 PM

Anyone still have their Slate umbrella? Mine got destroyed in the wind a while back.

46339. judithathome - 3/31/2016 8:43:30 PM

I do....but then, I still have my grandmothers last crossword book, too.

46340. arkymalarky - 3/31/2016 10:50:04 PM

I thought of you, threei, when I was listening to Susan Sarandon on Chris Hayes. I loved Dan Savage's response when he got on, that the lesser of two evils is less evil.

46341. iiibbb - 4/1/2016 5:47:41 PM

I'm not familiar with the reference. Was that a recent interview?

The point I've been making to people lately who say things like "Hillary hasn't earned my vote" is to say "You are not voting for Hillary, you are voting for all of the people who are going to suffer under Trump and Cruz"... followed by "Protest votes make sense in primaries, not elections. If Democrats held Congress, or had enough reliable judges on the SCOTUS as a firewall, I'd be more likely to endorse a protest vote... but the timing is wrong and there is too much at stake. Trump is talking about withdrawing support of S.Korea unless they pay us. He wants Japan to arm itself with nuclear weapons."

And when I'm feeling snide, I lament that when we all die in a nuclear inferno of Trump's making... at least our protest votes will have shown Wall Street we were serious.

46342. iiibbb - 4/1/2016 5:48:23 PM

Needless to say I don't even think of it as a "lesser of two evils" anymore.

46343. winstonsmith - 4/1/2016 9:49:40 PM

My main thoughts are:

1. It is essential that we get good judges on the Supreme Court.
2. The Republican party needs to reap what it's sown WRT the crazy BS they have fostered for years. They deserve to lose this election and to lose much of their power.
