Yeah, me neither.

I'm not even sure what to realistically hope for. Obviously, I don't want him back in the White House. Ideally he'd go to prison (unlikely), but so long as he is upright and capable of getting online or in front of a camera, he will continue to erode the fabric of our democracy.

I don't really know how the GOP comes back from Trump except that there isn't anyone like him -- really like him -- who could carry the torch. Trump's hubris and utter unconcern for societal or political norms, his comfort with outright deceit and corruption is fortunately rare. If he dropped dead tomorrow, I don't think the GOP would suddenly shift back toward sanity, but I also don't think it would continue to gallivant off toward crazy-town, either.

I'm just so sick of it all. It's depressing and demoralizing and I don't know what the solution is.

No one is coming to save us and I don't know how in the world we're going to make the strides to save ourselves at this point. Is it really going to take a civil war?

(which I just saw in the theaters and quite enjoyed, btw. It is aggressively a-political which has bugged some folks to no end, but the movie isn't about any specific political ideology. Kind of like the Walking Dead isn't really about zombies --- they're just the environment. Incidental. )

I don't know if the conviction will have any effect on the election but I'm happy to see him face jurors and be found guilty.

Yes! I'm seeing conflicting polling/focus group results on the impact of Trump's conviction on voting. Hopefully, this will develop into a real anti-Trump impact as the conviction sinks in for the independent/non-cult voters.

Unanimous verdict on every one of the 34 counts.

Love that it happened. Still terrified.

Not a single member of the sitting GOP will publicly uphold the verdict. We've got two Supreme Court justices who have all but publicly declared they believe the 2020 election was invalid, and another Federal Judge in Florida who is doing nearly everything within her power to throw the trial against Trump with the strongest evidence of criminal - if not treasonous - activity.

Do they (the GOP) think that once they're back in total power that everyone will just go back to believing in the integrity of the system?

I'm trying not to despair. I hold out hope that if we can just get through this next election, that by the time 2028 rolls around Trump will be too old, too sick, too imprisoned, or too dead to run.

btw -- good to see you winston!

Just stopped in...I'm in mourning.
I never thought I'd live to see the end of our Constitutional Republic. And only a few days away from when we declared our independence from a king, this SC grants the president the powers of a king.
I'm sicker than I was when I found out tump won in 2016. What evil he has wrought...what evil his supporters have unleashed on this nation.
I can't think of any way out of this that isn't violent. Once you've given up the rule of law, I don't see how you get it back without war or revolt. Especially with authoritarianism rolling like a wave across so many countries.
Heaven help us.

Heaven help us, amen.

I'm sick and I'm angry and despairing.

Saw an admonition to cancel subscriptions to the NYT because they call for Biden to step aside but not convicted felon Trump.

I don't know how we fix/save our media. The constant bombardment of bullshit about Biden sells ads, but when Trump wins they'll be out of jobs and many of them behind bars if they don't print what he likes.

I'm disgusted with the SC, but I am holding out at least a slim hope that if the question comes before them about Jan 6, that they find advocating a hostile takeover of Congress is not an official presidential act.

Here's a thought out of left field; Adam Kinzinger as Harris' VP, helping to bring the votes of anti-Trump Repubs and Independents who are reluctant to vote for a Dem ticket.

47369. Ms. No - 8/3/2024 2:32:11 AM

Oh, that might be a really good one ---- I just don't remember if I liked his politics in general before he started calling out Trump and the MAGA set. I mean, I assume I'd consider him a moderate Republican, but I honestly don't know.
