Looks great, no unsightly spaces, no wrapping.

616. JJBiener - 11/15/1999 1:14:28 AM

This is a test

617. JudithAtHome - 11/15/1999 1:16:33 AM

Great! It worked....

Dusty:

That Dec.5 book signing is at Harbor Center in Annapolis, MD and not the Inner Harbor, Baltimore, MD. Alas, I was looking forward to the possibility of meeting my first Motie in the flesh. Oh well.

619. Dusty - 11/15/1999 8:44:12 PM

Ooops, sorry. That's not particularly close. Although I should get to Annapolis sometime.

MSN wants a description. I'll work on something, but I want feedback before I submit it. Lycos specifically notes that it does not use Meta tag info, while Altavista specifically does. (I can resubmit after we add the meta tag data.)

(Testing here, just to make sure I don't screw up the table again.)

621. dusty - 11/16/1999 2:20:25 AM

OK?

624. Dusty - 11/16/1999 9:04:09 PM

Schehezarade

Yikes, what am I saying? Target="new" doesn't work for images.

What you want is the width command.

Width="xxx" where xxx is no greater than 425

Tell you what, I'll remove 622 and 623, and we can start over.

625. Schehezarade - 11/16/1999 9:09:19 PM

Thanks Dusty!

Dusty

I can see the photo, can you? I know it's enormous, but I'm still not sure how to reduce it.

627. Dusty - 11/16/1999 9:14:16 PM

Here is the command (With an extra space so it will display, not execute)
< img src="http://earthstation1.simplenet.com/wwiipics/Hitler_Gestures_2_jk.jpg" width="300">

628. Dusty - 11/16/1999 9:19:50 PM

Alternatively, if you want people to see the entire phote, but don't want to mess up the thread, use the following command (removing the two extra spaces):
< A HREF="http://earthstation1.simplenet.com/wwiipics/Hitler_Gestures_2_jk.jpg" Target="new">< IMG SRC="http://earthstation1.simplenet.com/wwiipics/Hitler_Gestures_2_jk.jpg"WIDTH=150>

(Click on image to see full-size)

629. Schehezarade - 11/16/1999 9:22:52 PM

Is this (with the space) what I had originally linked?

< img src="http://earthstation1.simplenet.com/wwiipics/Hitler_Gestures_4_jk.jpg" target="new">

630. Dusty - 11/16/1999 9:24:50 PM

Schehezarade

No
Note gestures_2 versus gestures_4

631. Schehezarade - 11/16/1999 9:27:13 PM

Sorry about that, I went back to the website and clicked on a different photo. Let me see if I can do it the right way --

632. Schehezarade - 11/16/1999 9:27:59 PM

Thank you Dusty! Is width 300, generally speaking, the desired size for the Mote?

633. Dusty - 11/16/1999 9:30:21 PM

And we need to change the Html hints page.

I guess that adding target="new" to an IMG tag doesn't hurt, but it doesn't do anything, so is misleading.

CalGal? Can you do this sometime?

634. Dusty - 11/16/1999 9:33:41 PM

Schehezarade

The size might depend on the nature of the picture, but treat 425 as an upper bound. A width of 425 just barely fits in the existing margins. But for some pictures, that is more than enough. In your case, where you might want to make a graphic point, you might want to go to the max, although, as I noted, you can go even larger by using the command to create a new window.

I generally use 300 as the maximum size I'll display in the Home and Garden thread, but on some occasions, go a big larger.

Dusty

Thanks again. What are the RoE regarding the nature of pictures? Common sense? I was tempted to link a picture of a Nazi atrocity, to make my point clearer to Asshole5, but didn't do so, because it is disturbing. Your opinions?

636. Dusty - 11/16/1999 9:43:35 PM

BTW, the Webmonkey link was giving me an error, so I changed it. I'm not sure where it was originally directed, but it now goes to the HTML basics page. If this is not the page people want, let me know.
