Go Bucks!

(And no, that's not me on the motorcycle!)

6571. arkymalarky - 4/11/2012 1:46:40 AM

Whoo. Coach Petrino out, with cause. Tomorrow will be interesting in AR.

R.I.P. Dynaformer

I believe he was the last of the Roberto's and he is a sire who will be missed. His offspring could do just about anything - many went on to steeplechase racing. His best known son was Barbaro, but Dynaformer was also known as a top sire of broodmares.

In vonKreedon related sports news, Fresno State wins repeat Western Atheletic Conference Championship! Now they wait to find out their NCAA tournament seed tomorrow afternoon. Go Bulldogs!

6574. vonKreedon - 5/3/2012 7:29:51 PM

The Bulldogs are going to UCLA and playing San Diego in the first round of the NCAA Championship. They're quite happy with the selection; San Diego is ranked ahead of Fresno, but they believe themselves to be the better team, and they've played a couple of matches on UCLA's courts earlier this year so they're happy about the courts.

I'll Have Another, ridden by Mario Gutierrez, has won the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby from the 19th post position

And Judith won $56.00 at the Kentucky Derby party by choosing him to win, place, and show!

6576. wabbit - 5/6/2012 1:28:39 AM

Good betting! I had Gemologist, Union Rags and I'll Have Another all for an each way bet, and Went The Day Well and Daddy Nose Best for show bets. I took Dullahan off my short list at about noon, alas, along with Creative Cause. Had I actually bet real money, I would have made about $250.

Bodemeister was very impressive, setting such fast fractions and being there right to the end. Union Rags may have broken badly, but I thought he got a terrible ride. Am still wondering what happened to Gemologist and Take Charge Indy.

Preakness in two weeks!

6577. judithathome - 5/6/2012 6:19:14 PM

I wish I'd bet $20 but all I had was $6 because I didn't want to lug my purse to the party....

So, not only was Jerry Sandusky guilty, he was a known quantity for *years*. Shame on Penn State for letting the public face of the football program take precedence over the well-being of the kids Sandusky abused.

Wimbledon - it was a good year to be thirty!

Andy Murray made it to the finals, but Roger Federer was not to be denied, winning his seventh men's singles title at Wimbledon. Murray will be back.

Serena Williams won the women's singles title, her fifth, in the morning, and went on to win the women's doubles title with sister Venus that evening, their fifth doubles championship at Wimbledon.

The Brits won their first Tour de France and now are hosting the Olympics. The usual boring opening ceremony, but perhaps the weather will hold out.

Kimberly Rhode became the first woman to win a medal in five consecutive Olympics, getting the gold and setting an Olympic record with a 99/100 in skeet shooting.

The US men were edged out by Italy for the gold in men's team archery, getting the silver.

Ryan Lochte got gold in the men's 400m Individual Medley. Michael Phelps finished fourth.

Buh-bye!

Four badminton teams were kicked out of the women's doubles at the London Games on Wednesday for trying to lose on purpose, conduct that a top IOC executive said strikes at the heart of Olympic competition.

The eight doubles players from China, South Korea and Indonesia were cited by the Badminton World Federation for "conducting oneself in a manner that is clearly abusive or detrimental to the sport"...

We've been so enjoying watching the ladies play again in the Olympic basketball team...like old home week.

6583. wabbit - 8/3/2012 3:00:44 AM

I keep hoping to see the equestrian events, but no such luck. I like the archery too.

6584. wabbit - 9/11/2012 7:48:30 PM

Congratulations to Andy Murray for winning his first Grand Slam event. It was a great match with Murray beating Novak Djokovic in fives long sets, becoming the first British man to win a Grand Slam singles championship since Fred Perry in 1936.

This game is painful. Bobby Petrino is such a jerk. Rumor is his motorcycle injuries were actually the result of getting beaten up by his girlfriend's fiancé. They need to just fire his whole team and start over. They're poison.

Unbeaten Frankel capped a brilliant career as he overcame testing conditions to claim his 14th consecutive victory in the Champion Stakes. The world's top-rated racehorse, trained by Sir Henry Cecil, beat Cirrus Des Aigles by a length-and-three-quarters in his final race before being retired to stud.

The four-year-old colt lost ground at the start and was slowly out of the stalls under Tom Queally. In the softest ground he has encountered, the 2-11 favourite - considered one of the all-time greats - recovered and had enough to see off last year's winner (9-2). He was cheered continuously from three furlongs out by the sell-out 32,000 crowd.

Victory for Frankel took his career prize money to nearly £3m and his aggregate winning distance to more than 76 lengths. Owner Prince Khalid Abdullah confirmed in the winners' enclosure after the race that Frankel will be retired.

Well, well, well. Lance took dope. Lance lied. But only once :

"I view this situation as one big lie that I repeated a lot of times," he said.

I was a little bit shaken : has he become a better man? I never thought he could :

Calling himself a "jerk" as well as a humanitarian, he said he was flawed and wrought the disgrace which has now engulfed him. "I deserve this." Showed an old clip of him denying the accusations, he said: "I look at that clip and think, look at that arrogant prick. That's not me today."

But :
However, Armstrong, 41, denied being a mastermind who threatened other team-mates to dope, and rejected allegations that he bribed the International Cycling Union and a Swiss laboratory to cover up his cheating. He also denied taking drugs during his comeback in 2009 and 2010, and did not indicate – at least not in the first of a two-part broadcast – whether he would cooperate with the anti-doping agency Usada so that he can return to competitive sport, as has been reported.

Oof, I'm relieved. He's an avowed cheat, but he's still a lying scumbag. My world view was almost shaken for a minute.

Kentucky Derby won handily by Orb...one down, two to go in the Triple Crown!

6589. wabbit - 5/8/2013 4:56:23 PM

Great ride by Joel Rosario, and good for Shug, it's about time! My sister and I always watch the races together, via Skype. I sported a Beanie Baby skunk on my head as a stand-in for a fascinator...it was lovely. We both had 1st, 3rd, 5th and 6th. I'll be keeping an eye on Normandy Invasion at the Belmont.

The Oaks was a surprise. Dreaming of Julia was a heavy favorite, but had a bad trip and couldn't manage better than 4th. Princess of Sylmar with Mike Smith up won, paid $79.60 to win.
