I enjoy the biathalon but my favorites are the downhill and curling. One for the danger and skill and the other for the silly fun.

my favorites

biathalon
ski jump
curling
downhill

I never favor anything that has judging (even through I know it's an element of ski jumping)

I am a big fan of curling and biathlon. In curling, USA women got their asses kicked hard by GB.

At a game watching the number one 1a school play the number one 2a school in HS boys basketball. Nail biting hour ahead. Ugh.

6625. arkymalarky - 2/15/2014 3:32:06 AM

2 1/2 minutes have passed and I'm a nervous wreck.

6626. arkymalarky - 2/15/2014 4:02:32 AM

We're 10 down at half

6627. arkymalarky - 2/15/2014 4:19:16 AM

This is brutal. Sad and brutal.

6628. arkymalarky - 2/15/2014 4:20:56 AM

So much for undefeated. I'm not emotionally constituted for live spectator sports.

When I saw this about the surfing pig in Hawaii, I thought about everything Judith (and others) have said about Hawaii.

Then I saw that it's Judith's birthday (in another thread) Happy birthday Judith!

And surfing is a sport, so here's the pig if you want to watch: Kama the surfing pig

Four of the five starters on my team last night were in the last class I taught at Delight--8th graders then. They are now seniors and last night was senior night, so their parents, who had also been my students, were there. I hate they lost so badly (20+ pts) on their senior night and broke their 29 game winning streak, but it was a wonderful evening otherwise.

Trill, thanks but one birthday a year is getting to be too much for me...yesterday was my wedding anniversary.

The Men's figure skating was so bad last night...I'm shocked they even gave out medals.

The one thing that irked the hell out of me aside from the "medal nerves" is the way the commentators butchered the pronunciation of the Japanese names...absolutely butchered them.

If you are responsible for doing the commentary of different nationalities, learn how THEY say their names beforehand...it's the professional thing to do.

One more detail: one kid's mother still calls me by my maiden name.

Haven't seen much Olympics this year. Saw the Russian skater at my parents' and that's been all. Maybe I'll catch up this weekend.

Wow, this cow should meet my father, they seem to think alike.

My apologies to cows, who are generally very sweet.

I saw the women's cross country 4x5km relay yesterday, what a race!

Charlotte Kalla produced an astonishing comeback leg to earn Sweden an upset win in the Olympic women's cross country 4x5km relay at the Sochi Winter Games on Saturday.

Norway could do no better than fifth after winning all the World Cup and world championship relays since the Vancouver Games, where they also won gold.

Finland took silver and Germany won the bronze.

Kalla started the final leg 25.7 seconds behind Finland in third position but caught Krista Lahteenmaki and German Denise Herrmann some 300 meters out and won the sprint to the line...
I hope the mothers of the Norwegian women are not like Sundby's mother.

oh well Judith, hope you had a wonderful anniversary!

6636. arkymalarky - 3/2/2014 2:35:09 AM

well I'm going to try this again. Finals regionals. Hopefully it will go better than the last game, but this team defeated the one that defeated us so I'm not too hopeful. It would only be their second loss if they lost though. They'll still go to state.

6637. arkymalarky - 3/2/2014 4:01:36 AM

We're 8 up @ half.

6638. arkymalarky - 3/2/2014 4:47:02 AM

They got within four but we won by a even. Now to avoid getting trampled. This is so much better than losing. On to state!!!!

6639. arkymalarky - 3/16/2014 5:35:31 PM

Well, we didn't win s ate in basketball, but we did in chess and jr high archery!!

California Chrome got a perfect trip and won the 2014 Kentucky Derby. The pre-race favorite, California Chrome went off at 5-2. Ridden by Victor Espinoza, Chrome made a winner of trainer Art Sherman. At 77, he became the oldest trainer of a winner in Derby history.

California Chrome's owners, Steve Coburn and Perry Martin, live near Reno, Nevada. A trainer called them "dumb asses" for getting into the racing game, inspiring the duo to put the letters DAP on their silks, which stands for Dumb Ass Partners. California Chrome is the product of an $8,000 mare and a $2,500 stallion.

Two-time Horse of the Year Wise Dan won the $500,000 Grade 1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic for the second consecutive year Saturday at Churchill Downs. The 7-year-old gelding, trained by Charlie LoPresti and ridden by John Velazquez, edged Seek Again by a neck, running 1 1/8 miles in 1:47.73. He has won 12 of his last 13 races and is 21 of 29 for his career. He is 13 of 14 on turf and 4 for 4 at Churchill Downs.

On Friday, Untapable was an overwhelming favorite entering the 2014 Kentucky Oaks and the 3-year-old filly was able to live up to expectations, blowing away the field to win the race and claim the $600,000 first-place purse. My Miss Sophia finished second while Unbridled finished third. It was the second win in a row for jockey Rosie Napravnik.

The Oaks got off to a crazy start when Empress of Midway, a 50-1 favorite, reared in the starting gate and flipped onto her back just before the start of the race. She was scratched as a result, but is fine.
