Follow. No. Watch when on. Yes.

Those people are nuts and incredible.

My son finished his college tennis career last weekend. An emotionally profound change in our lives.

6680. judithathome - 4/29/2015 9:15:00 PM

So what's in store for him now, VK?

6681. vonKreedon - 4/30/2015 12:04:08 AM

Not entirely sure, which is one of the profound changes as since he was 12 he's always had clear goals and means to them. He does have one more semester before he graduates, not all his Fresno State credits satisfied U. Portland's requirements. It's actually a very nice thing; his scholarship continues to pay for school even though is NCAA eligibility has expired, and he'll be able to have a final semester as just a student.

The 37 year drought ends! American Pharoah won the Belmont Stakes and the Triple Crown. He was the best two year old and is the best three year old. Congratulations to Bob Baffert, Victor Espinoza and the Zayat family and to Coolmore for wrapping up the stallion rights after the Preakness. Gotta love a horse that doesn't get a great jump out of the gate, but finishes a mile and a half race with his ears up.

Note to Steve Coburn - not one of the horses running against American Pharoah had run in both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness. Enjoy that extra large slice of humble pie.

Another great race at Belmont yesterday was the Metropolitan Handicap. Honor Code came from last to fly past the field in the stretch and win over Tonalist and Private Zone.

Wedding Toast got an upset win over Untapable in the Ogden Phipps Stakes. Curalina won by a neck over By The Moon in the Acorn Stakes.

Congrats to the USA Women's Soccer team in defeating Germany and getting into the finals of the World Cup!! Go, Team USA!

6684. vonKreedon - 7/2/2015 7:22:49 PM

Nice, a rematch with Japan for the cup!

6685. arkymalarky - 7/2/2015 9:17:26 PM

But that poor British girl!

6686. judithathome - 7/2/2015 10:47:17 PM

I know...she must feel almost suicidal!

6687. vonKreedon - 7/6/2015 7:47:13 PM

Hell of a performance by the women's national team yesterday. Carli Lloyd had a World Cup for the ages, wining the Golden Ball as the best player in the tournament and only losing the Golden Boot on a tie breaker. She's the first woman to score a hat-trick in the final. And her third goal is an astounding piece of awareness and talent.

I can't believe I actually SAW that! It truly WAS amazing and I had no idea that there is no REST in that game...had never watched a soccer game before all the way through...those players are the most amazing athletes in the WORLD.

I always thought American football was wussy because they have SOOO many time-outs and halftime...thought basketball was more "rigorous" because they seem to be on the court with no rests compared to football.

But THIS sport?? Get outta town!! They are ON it for 90 minutes straight!

6689. judithathome - 7/20/2015 12:13:55 AM

This is amazing video... I guess sharks all over the world are getting pissed off!

6690. wabbit - 7/20/2015 10:30:22 PM

Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!

My sister and I sat and watched Sharknado 2 while Mom was in ICU the week before last. The nurses were loving our running commentary.

These are the worst movies, but worth watching if you need a good laugh, so funny! And don't miss Sharktopus! What in the world happened to Eric Roberts that he is the star of Sharktopus?? But what joy that the B- Creature Double-Feature movies I remember from my youth (Creature of the Black Lagoon anyone?) are seeing a resurgence!

Tonight on HBO: Trophy Nation w/Bob Costas...about our tendency to award kids trophies no matter how they do in sports...good, bad...just so they show up.

Back in the day...the kids that got trophies at the end of the season of Little League baseball/Pee Wee football only got trophies if they won. I think those kids, on the whole, turned out well.

My son hated the whole no-cut, everyone plays and gets a trophy ethos of Seattle. But then, he's an alpha athlete and it cut into both his playing time and the team's cohesion.

Former NFL star and longtime sportscaster Frank Gifford died today of natural causes in his Connecticut home, his family said.

Gifford, who was married to talk show host Kathie Lee Gifford, was 84.

....from CNN Breaking News

(I know this is tacky but I can't believe he was married to her that long...)

A dog was killed and several others injured when a snowmobile was deliberately driven into two dog-sled teams competing in a race, officials have said.

The incident happened during the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race in Alaska.

Race marshals said a man on a snowmobile first attacked one sled and later hit the sled that was following behind.

A man has now been arrested, but police say the motive remains unclear.

Arnold Demoski, 26, faces charges of assault, reckless endangerment, reckless driving and criminal mischief, Alaska State Troopers say...

Give him a pair of socks and underwear and drop his ass off on the tundra. Buh-bye.

WTF???? What is wrong with people?

I still feel like these kinds of crimes shouldn't print the names of the perpetrators. Deny them their 15 minutes. I'm convinced that's why half of them do this crazy shit.

VK,

"My son hated the whole no-cut, everyone plays and gets a trophy ethos of Seattle. But then, he's an alpha athlete and it cut into both his playing time and the team's cohesion."

I've been teaching Vonnegut's Harrison Bergeron to my sophomores this week and they're of the same mind. It's a little odd though. Because they've grown up with the trophy epidemic, many of them actually believe that they really are that good --- that it's the other kids who would fall behind.

For people who are truly gifted, it has to be the worst kind of frustrating to be made to wait, or make concessions, or watch a whole group do less well just because we've got some warped sense of fairness.

Fairness in competitive endeavors is in the rules. I always assumed that's why there was a difference between Varsity and JV -- not just age, but ability.

Message # 6695 Agree. Keep their name out of the news and see what happens. It sure can't hurt to give it a try for a year.

And I'm over the "I blacked out I have a disease" defense.
