Slake:
Use the "Check for Dust" option. It will show exactly what your post would look like if posted. And you can make any corrections you need to right there. 774. Slake Dray - 1/6/2000 12:30:19 AM Great image! I've already saved it for redistribution.
In that case, I need to credit the website it came from: Afrosquad 775. dusty - 1/6/2000 1:44:50 AM 766. Slake Dray - 1/5/00 11:41:40 PM

Sorry, we haven't implemented TT's HTML for dummies.
OTOH, we haven't discouraged the use of images. 776. janjon - 1/7/2000 4:33:04 AM Testing. 777. janjon - 1/7/2000 4:34:33 AM TESTING. 778. janjon - 1/7/2000 4:35:20 AM say, this could get to be fun. 779. janjon - 1/7/2000 4:35:54 AM
whoops. 780. Bob Embick - 1/7/2000 5:25:43 AM testing 781. CalGal - 1/7/2000 6:32:54 AM Hey, Bob. I wanted to tell you (in case you missed my post in Politics) that it wasn't you who screwed up the font. The poster in front of you had apparently decided to be a putz. Unless there was some purpose I didn't understand.
EVeryone was squawking at you because we hate it when people play with "toys" (HTML) before they know what they're doing. Which wasn't the case with you. Sorry about that.
The Mote isn't like Tabletalk, vis a vis HTML. We don't give you any of the shortcuts. Full HTML tags only. You can reference an earlier message like this < msg num=1234 >, but eliminate the spaces I put before and after the angle brackets.
If you don't "put your toys away" (close all your HTML tags), the interface won't correct it for you. This is not a catastrophe, people do it all the time. Except me, of course. And those who are too chickenshit to use HTML (nod to Niner).
The two major errors to avoid--make sure you close your tables, and don't miss a ending quote.
On the plus side, you can post images. 782. soupisgoodfood - 1/7/2000 6:46:58 AM The poster in front of you had apparently decided to be a putz. Unless there was some purpose I didn't understand.
Gee, I guess the third possibility -- an honest mistake -- is out of the question.
What's yiddish for "fucking cunt"? Should I take it to the language thread? 783. CalGal - 1/7/2000 6:53:09 AM An honest mistake is entirely possible and is covered in "other purpose".
I've never seen < tt > used seven times in a single post, and you've always assured me you were an HTML whiz. I am not. This led me to assume that you did it to cause trouble or because you had some other purpose to great for me to comprehend. 784. CalGal - 1/7/2000 6:54:00 AM And I'm sure Hashke could help you out with your translation needs. 785. soupisgoodfood - 1/7/2000 7:01:16 AM Ah, I won't belabor this, except to point out that a mistake is usually the opposite of something purposeful. Perhaps a sojourn in the language thread would do us both good. 786. CalGal - 1/7/2000 7:05:14 AM Soup,
Well, I'm assuming you had some purpose in putting all those TT tags in there. If not, and they were accidentally copied from as part of a cut and paste or something, then you're right--I should have spelled out "an honest mistake" as one of the options. I do hope this has cleared things up. 787. CalGal - 1/7/2000 9:08:58 AM Pardon the spam, but I have finally updated the HTML hints page. I would appreciate any and all feedback. Please post responses in Try the Mote.
And now, halfway through posting to most of the heavy traffic threads, I realize that not everyone will know what that is. Sigh. I hate it when I do that.
The HTML Hints link is on the front page, near the bottom. And on every page in the Posting Window text. I'm not going to link it because I want to make sure newbies can find it using this description. 788. joezan - 1/7/2000 9:16:38 AM
Looks good, Cal. 789. theDiva - 1/7/2000 9:18:23 AM Very clear and concise, well organized and readable.
One sentence is incomplete:
"Pick Up Your Toys!
The Mote's interface is pretty neat, but it is powerful. Any HTML tags you put in are included as part of the page that displays. Your mistakes are therefore "
Other than that, no problems. Very nice work.
790. dusty - 1/7/2000 9:33:07 AM Looks great CalGal.
Lots of good new stuff.
One nit - the link that says PICK UP YOUR TOYS!!!doesn't take you there. 791. Dusty - 1/7/2000 9:53:25 AM CalGal notes in the HTML FAQ that it is bad form to include sound in a post, even though it is possible.
Let me amend that, with something I just learned today.
If you use a command of the form:
< embed src="http://fly.hiwaay.net/~bstevens/xmas/joy1.mid" width="150" height="40" autostart="false" loop="true">
it will show up as
