7967. concerned - 11/7/2012 7:40:25 PM I'll stay with my prediction of the last couple decades: 3"-9" of sea level increase by 2100AD. 7968. concerned - 11/7/2012 7:41:15 PM I suspect now that I'm erring on the high side. 7969. alistairconnor - 11/12/2012 12:37:46 PM Poles apart: satellites reveal why Antarctic sea ice grows as Arctic melts | Environment | guardian.co.uk The mystery of the expansion of sea ice around Antarctica, at the same time as global warming is melting swaths of Arctic sea ice, has been solved using data from US military satellites. Two decades of measurements show that changing wind patterns around Antarctica have caused a small increase in sea ice, the result of cold winds off the continent blowing ice away from the coastline. "Until now these changes in ice drift were only speculated upon using computer models," said Paul Holland at the British Antarctic Survey. "Our study of direct satellite observations shows the complexity of climate change. "The Arctic is losing sea ice five times faster than the Antarctic is gaining it, so, on average, the Earth is losing sea ice very quickly. There is no inconsistency between our results and global warming."
But then again, this is the US military, so they're probably lying...7970. arkymalarky - 12/31/2012 7:59:02 PM I use my phone for almost everything. I changed from a droid to an iPhone, And I may be about to switch back. I am doing voice to text right now on the iPhone, But when I type it's a huge pain. The droid gives you options to choose, unobtrusively above your keypad. With iPhone, you either have to type it out or use AutoCorrect. There are other things I don't like about the iPhone, but there are things I love about it. I'll probably just use it as an iPod and go back to droid for my main phone. If anyone else has experience along that line, I love to hear it.
Stan asked me to interject that he thinks androids suck. 7971. iiibbb - 12/31/2012 8:27:03 PM Having just read the post above; I don't think the US military has a reason to lie about that. I can tell you from direct experience that they are actually quite concerned about climate change. Many bases would be affected by sea level rise, the US Navy is a significant source of funds for alternative energy technologies. 7972. iiibbb - 12/31/2012 8:33:55 PM If you switch back to Android, try SwiftKey 3. I have chose no auto-correction prior to this keyboard because my typos are less of a problem than the auto-correct auto-complete choices.
Swiftkey also analyzes your facebook and gmail accounts to help it's prediction. It even correctly predicts both of my Son's semi-unusual names. My only gripe is that in certain apps, using punctuation automatically causes an auto-complete, which has cause a few classic auto-complete errors. 7973. arkymalarky - 12/31/2012 9:26:06 PM Thanks for the suggestion!
7974. iiibbb - 12/31/2012 9:32:39 PM I feel stupid with the typos in my post, but they weren't swiftkey's fault. The problem is that I don't spend a lot of time proofreading in informal places like this. 7975. arkymalarky - 1/1/2013 12:07:12 AM I don't mind typos but I want speed and convenience. iPhone has neither for me. 7976. alistairconnor - 1/2/2013 3:34:43 PM "Stan asked me to interject that he thinks androids suck."
Do androids suck electric sheep? 7977. arkymalarky - 1/2/2013 4:27:14 PM Haha! He's wrong in any case. 7978. iiibbb - 1/2/2013 8:52:50 PM I can understand why people would prefer Apple. I don't understand the religious fervor which which people prefer Apple. Droid does a few valuable things that Apple just doesn't. 7979. iiibbb - 1/2/2013 8:54:43 PM I don't need iTunes integration--- which explains my indifference toward Apple. 7980. arkymalarky - 1/2/2013 9:31:13 PM Once you have an iPod you don't really need an iPhone for iTunes. If I go back to droid that's what my iPhone will become. 7981. iiibbb - 1/3/2013 12:18:52 AM I'll tell you my favorite apps...
(1) Touch Calendar, but another app, the S2 Calendar Widget, to launch Touch Calendar
(2) Tasker (this one has a steep learning curve, but you can automate stuff like only having the volume on while certain apps are open... or only syncing every 20 minutes to save battery life). If you can imagine it, you can automate it.
(3) Easy Tether (one time cost, but free computer tethering to the internet... nice if you are unlimited data and more secure than the airport's wireless)
(4) Shush (mute your phone for your choice of time in 15 minute increments and then it will automatically restore your ringer)
(5) Cam Scanner (make your phone into a scanner... available for iPhone too)
(6) SwiftKey3 (I'm sold now after a couple of weeks trying it) 7982. arkymalarky - 1/3/2013 2:33:47 AM I like dragon, run keeper, weatherbug, to-do, my journal, and Stan really likes grocery iq. I have over 300 on my droid and I love a lot of them. 7983. PincherMartin - 1/14/2013 6:23:35 AM So, Alistair, have you been saving up your euros?
7984. judithathome - 1/14/2013 6:41:28 PM I noticed the low opinion of liberals on that site...just wanted to say the conservative down the street owes me $100 due to the election outcome this year and has yet to pay up. 7985. iiibbb - 2/6/2013 8:43:35 PM Explode already 7986. iiibbb - 2/6/2013 8:44:15 PM I mean this one
