Yay for you!

I'm thinking about getting the new blackberry. Someone talk me into or out of it.

8002. iiibbb - 2/6/2013 10:56:05 PM

I would wait and see. Why should you be their guinea pig?

You also sound like you like your apps... there won't be many at first.

I'd do it in a heartbeat if it was just email and no expensive data plan. If I could save money I'd do it... my smart phone is a luxury expense for sure.

I loved my old blackberry more than my droid or iphone and I can still use my apps on both of those on wifi. I'm just starting to feel like I'm paying for a toy I could still have separately from a phone. You're very right about being a guinea pig tho. So far IMO their roll out and ad campaign suck. My initial plan was to reactivate my droid. I don't like my iPhone except for music

8004. iiibbb - 2/8/2013 4:13:40 PM

I think it is funny the bad reviews the new Blackberry is getting. "It's camera sucks" or "It doesn't do this complete non-phone feature well at all"

Jesus...

1) Decent reception
2) Significant battery life (I don't need a wafer thin phone, I need a phone that goes 3 days on a charge
3) Email
4) Weather (maybe)
5) Navigation

That's all that I really need.

8005. arkymalarky - 2/8/2013 4:56:56 PM

EXACTLY!!

8006. arkymalarky - 2/8/2013 4:57:45 PM

And on bb you can create docs and presentations and other practical stuff that's part of the phone

State of the art image processing

I bought a padcaster yesterday, and light and lens adapter.

I felt inspired after watching Searching for Sugarman! iPad has an app that makes an effect for movies that is identical to 16mm film.

Next year (in class) we will be trying short films in addition to documentaries.

Does anyone else use their iPad for filming?

8009. arkymalarky - 3/21/2013 8:47:13 PM

That sounds great. I haven't but I'll check it out

It's pretty amazing what iPads do.

Climate change in my backyard...

For the past week a pair of white-winged doves has been joining the usual mourning doves for snacks on the patio. Until recent years white wings were associated primarily with Mexico and the Rio Grande valley. They have been established in Houston for a few years and now at least two have moved another 100 miles farther north. Also we've had a really rare bird my guides say is a ringed turtle-dove. Never heard of such. Larger than the other doves, solid beige instead of mottled gray and with a black swoosh on the back of the neck and a squared off tail instead of a pointed one. Meantime the area has been designated in severe drought condition. I believe it. One of our oaks is dead and another is shedding bark, Need to find an arborist for advice. Damn.

I'm going back to my droid on Monday. I can't wait. 3i, you need to try an app called Sherpa. It works great, similar to Siri.

So, over the break, we were all trying to decide which service we wanted to attend on Christmas Eve.

My mom and I decided we would go back to Hunter's Glen Baptist Church for an evening service - it's where both she and I were baptized. I hadn't been to any service there in a couple of years and figured it would be great to see familiar faces and listen to Dr. Kim Hall teach.

(I transferred memberships to a different Baptist church when I moved.)

Anyway - I google searched for service times and the results were shocking. The first story listed was about Dr. Hall's passing.

He committed suicide in 2011.

I couldn't and still can't believe it. Dr. Hall was the smartest, kindest, most incredible Christian man I have ever known. He was a true academic and a gifted teacher in all subjects.

Honestly, he was and is the standard I use when comparing all other pastors.

I read everything I could find about it - which wasn't much - and I was and am left with such a feeling of loss. I can't explain it. plus, I feel guilty. Why didn't I know about it? How come no one, not one single person, told me?

I even found a letter I wrote him thanking him for helping me understand certain theological questions I had. I didn't mail it, and I regret that so much. What if receiving a letter of gratitude would have helped him? So many unanswered questions.

One of the many wonderful things about him was his compassion for others. He served voluntarily as a police and fire chaplain because he wanted to help others when faced with the loss of a loved one. It takes a very special person to be able to comfort people in those kinds of situations, and he absolutely had that gift.

To know that he took his own life and left behind a wife and two sons is so contradictory to who he was.

I did not mean to post that here.
